Belgium LFC targetTOBY Alderweireld of Ajax has revealed his interest in relocating to a high profile English club next season, as reported by The Express.

The Dutch defender appears set to depart Ajax this season and seek a fresh challenge elsewhere, and Alderweireld’s preferred destination appears to be in the Premiership. Liverpool have already been linked with the defender, as they seek to bolster their defence for next season following the retirement of Jamie Carragher and the uncertainty over the future of Martin Skrtel.

However Spurs are also keen on making a move for him to replace William Gallas, where he could be paired with fellow Belgian centre back Jan Vertonghen.

Although naturally a central defender, Alderweireld can also play at right back and operate in a holding midfield role. He has been capped for Belgium 24 times and made 45 appearances for Ajax last season, scoring four goals.

The 24 year old has not just garnered interest from teams in England, but has also received offers from clubs in Russia, Portugal and Germany, but with only the latter likely to peak Alderweireld’s interest.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Alderweireld said: “That is not my preference, England and Germany are the best leagues where I think I can take the next step.

“I have to go somewhere where I can play football a bit and where my style of play suits. On the other hand, I do not want to play for a team at the bottom of their league. I want to leave Ajax for a nice club, otherwise I’ll just stay in Amsterdam.”

It would seem that Liverpool are a perfect match for Alderweireld, and if the Reds to decide to make a move they will have to make an offer of around £8 million.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

Spurs will even fight for a donkey if Liverpool glance at it.

I think its more the case that we are both going for the same type of player. There is not much we can do about that. PL scouts know about obscure wingers in the Polish 3rd division, so none of us can claim our scouts found this or that player.

Once you take into account age, price and quality, there are only a handful of players that Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool can sign, and they tend to be the same players!

lol the hasty re-hash has failed epically.
You’ve changed the title to ‘Belgian’, but the second paragraph still says ‘Dutch’, as does the URL.
I think that shows the amount of attention to detail you put in to this.
    Stop.
    Fail.
