AnfieldTHERE is good news for Reds supporters’ as the start of the 2013-2014 Barclays Premier League season brings with it an upgrade for the Liverpool FC Squad.

The bad news is that, they may be without two key players, Pepe Renia and Luis Suarez.

Regardless, it is important to point out as a Liverpool FC supporter, that the measuring stick for success as a footballer and certainly as a supporter is in fact the ability to play amongst the very best, the elites.

Surely, Mr. John Henry must know, that be it baseball or football, nothing beats or replaces the share thrill and excitement of playing at the highest level. In our case, this is Champions League football; in other words, Champions League is to football as the World Series is to baseball. Therefore, Mr. Henry took over Liverpool FC on the premise that he would deliver Champions League football once more to Liverpool, amongst other promises.

We are entering our third anniversary with Fenway Sports Group at the helm, and still there is no progress to be excited about. However, so far, the Americans seem willing to back the manager in his efforts to assemble a group of players that fits his philosophy.

And with Brendan Rodgers expected to continue overhauling his squad, the start of the Premier League season will welcome the much needed metamorphosis of the Liverpool Football squad. In addition, with Liverpool set to kick-off their campaign at home against Stoke City, followed by a string of games that, apart from the Manchester United game, should be hands down winnable games, at least on paper. But we are not playing on paper are we?

Nevertheless, with this potential squad and waves of talented players set to join, Rodgers will have no excuses why we will not be able to be in the top two or three in the league by November.

Brendan Rodgers’ task will be to get the Reds playing at a consistently high level, in addition to successfully integrating his new recruits.

If reports are to be believed and Luis Suarez is indeed going to stay, then this is a peek of the potential starting eleven for Liverpool FC:

Reina

Johnson/Agger/Toure/Enrique

Gerrard/Lucas Leiva

Aspas/Mkhitaryan/Suarez*

Sturridge

Substitutes: Mignolet, Ilori, Luis Alberto, Downing, Sterling, Skrtel, Borini, Allen , Wisdom, Henderson, Shelvey, Suso, Coutinho.

It is thought that Brendan Rodgers is set to continue his rebuilding exercise with the rumoured addition of Ghanaian international winger Christian Astu to his already talented squad.

In fact, with so much buzz about Luis Suarez’s saga, not much is being said of the already capable Liverpool squad. However, nothing can be achieved without the above mentioned additions, and so I urge Fenway Sports Group to stop procrastinating. There is really not many alternatives, especially now that foragers like Tottenham FC are lurking around and seemingly set on making a living on Liverpool FC’s scouts.

It makes sense to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. Also, with Alex Ferguson’s retirement, it means that the deck will be reshuffled, and surely we can’t afford to find ourselves at the bottom (again).

I have been a Liverpool F.C supporter since the mid 80's, I fell in love with this club when I saw the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes play. I hold a Law degree from the University of London ,and a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies.

BR considers us as a midtable team, because that’s the experience he has. He will be sacked after the first five games .

  • john says:

hope we do wit suarez what spurs did luka m and tell him he is staying end of, he has 3 years on his contract so even if we had to sell next year we wud still get good money for him maybe 35 to 40 million. if he stays we wud hav a great pick for our front 3 and get wanyama we wud b sorted

  • YNWA says:

Gk:mignolet he is much more consistent than Regina.
    Defence: Johnson Papa Agger/Toure Enrique/Willems.
    Cdm: Gerrard/Wanyama Lucas/Allen.
    Cam: Coutinho Mkhityryan Aspas.
Striker:Suarez/ Sturridge / Luis Alberto. That’s playing a 4231 all them signings would cost in the region of €58 million pounds.

rediculous to see kolo ahead of kelly or skrtel, wayama nd atsu are seriously over hyped, we “need” diame¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

Dear God!!! Did I really see this line!!??…………………….’We are entering our third anniversary with Fenway Sports Group at the helm, and still there is no progress to be excited about’
Do you not remember that this club was on the brink of bankruptcy, carrying massive debt, an embarrasment to the fans and a complete mess on and off the field!! I know you mentioned CL qualification as the gauge, but you cannot judge this in isolation. I was interested when I saw the heading of the article, but couldn’t be bothered reading on after this line. Shocking tripe!!!!

Poor article.120 mil investment in players gave us Carrol Adam Downing and Henderson.2 sold and hopefully Downing to follow.Hendo’s been typically overhyped by the press and fans alike,nt sure why because compared to he’s opponents of the same age in the u21 setup he looks average.Benefit of the doubt to him though but definitely not a starting 11 LFC player.Point is other clubs spent much less than us and got better quality players.Again the owners have given money to spend,nt as much as we’d like but unless you have a sheihk owner what club is going give you 200 mil in 2 years. So what do you do when you trying to fix Dalglish(he’ll always be the king to me) and Comollis mistakes.Inherited a poor squad with no depth and small pockets.Bargain basement it is.Currently its 2 hits and 2 misses.Borini and Allen were poor and unnecessary buys.Sturridge and Coutinho inspiring.
Not saying Rogers is the man, jury’s still out and nt sure about the owners either but with the mistakes of Comolli and co we’re back to rebuilding.Avoiding the same mistakes is imperative and already the lesson has been learned. From buying overhyped overpriced British players with poor technical ability we going for their cheaper more technically gifted counterparts.Get the mix right and we’ll be moving in the right direction.

I say a big ‘thank you’ to john henry for saving the club. Will always be grateful. The fact they are running the club prudently is encouraging bearing in mind ffp. Building a team within a budget makes sense. If reina goes then so be it. We do not need mignolet and reina, especially when you consider reina’s wages. Would have preferred alex mccarthy but seeing as the premier league as a whole seem hell bent on making sure there will not be any english players actually playing in the epl in 5 years time this was unlikely to happen. I suggest mccarthy changes his name to mccarthinho. He will be snapped up then!

    • stevie says:

Oh and please can we have henderson start next season. Clearly improving. Sitting on the bench will stunt his development

  • Arnold says:

Would like to see Kelly being given a chance. I believe that he has potential!

  • Austine says:

I love dat line up but we have to wait till d boss completed his singing…

  • Philippe says:

Whats countinho doing on bench, find a replacement 4 leiva

  • Moses Tight says:

    Top three is sure.

  • Livaaa says:

Couthinho for Suarez if Suarez leaves

  • Sadiq says:

Nice line up. But wait a minut pls wats toure doing in the line up when u have skrtel and kelly ? And why on earth is suso and cotinoh not making the first team? Sturidge should always come from bench cause am tired of the tention he cause me.

  • Tom says:

    Countinio on the bench???

  • Kaloqn says:

aahahhaa u gotta be kiding me … I can’t believe it… Coutinho on the bench???? He will probably be our best player next season… and btw unless we buy Toby/Papa and Wanyama/Diame , Mkhitaryan and keep Suarez top 4 will be nothing but fiction

    • Kevin says:

While I agree that coutinho has been great for us , he doesn’t really defend therefore I say Aspas because he has a much higher work rate similar to that of Suarez. And all who suggested that lucas should be replaced, really doesn’t appreciate the importance of Lucas to the team.

  • Rai Reds says:

    Keep saurez

  • ahmed says:

    Am happy about our signing

  • Franknero says:

    Contiho must play.

  • Prince says:

Funny. Coutinho anyday is my first choice even above suarez. Without much creativity, where will the goal come from?. Anyway time will tell. The higher the form, the more playing time u have, good competition for the team.

  • Jas says:

Wow! Really is a headache! How do you fit Lucas, Gerrard, Aspas, Coutinho, Mkhitrayen and Suarez in the same midfield! (Providing we get Mick and Suarez stays)
I also think Sturridge should be up front. The games and goals we scored without Suarez in the team were phenomenal.
Brendan’s gonna have a hard time deciding who to keep on the bench! But I think he prefers it that way. An abundance of talent as opposed to a dearth, as was the case for most of last season. I just hope he doesn’t play Allen.
