Reina to reunite with Rafa at Napoli

napoliLIVERPOOL’S long time number 1 (25) Pepe Reina is set to depart Anfield, after coming to an agreement with Napoli for a season-long loan, as reported in The Liverpool Daily Post.

After 8 years of being Liverpool’s first choice shot-stopper, the reign looks like it is over following the arrival of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland.

What may have made the decision easier for Reina, is the chance to be reunited with former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, and the 30 year old is very close to concluding the deal.

Since Mignolet’s £9 million transaction was completed last month, the Spaniard’s future at the club looked increasingly bleak, despite Brendan Rodgers’ insistence that the Belgian’s arrival was to provide Reina with competition instead of actually replacing him.

However, with a £110,000 a week wage packet at Liverpool it was always unlikely that the Reds’ American owners FSG would shell out such cash for Reina to be used partially throughout the season.

Reina was meant to fly to Australia this weekend in order to join up with the squad for their pre-season tour, but in this new turn of events he will be making his way to Italy for a medical before finally joining the Serie A side.

The Reds have brought Danny Ward up from the Academy to provide backup for Mignolet and Australian Brad Jones.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

FSG and BR are harmful to LFC. They cheat us, the fans repeatedly. Mignolet suppose to provide competition with Reina, and see what happened now.

And LFC suppose to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan, right ??? New/improved stadium, right ??? We can compete in transfer market, right ???

I don’t know about you, but I have had enough of BS coming from FSG and BR. Except live matches, I will not spend any money on LFC as a silent protest against these shameless owner and manager.

I wish they would reunite back home, at anfield ! Rogers is destroying this club. Out of depth and amateouresque in the transfers . Last season, Carrol was sent out without a replacement. This season, 9 million spent on a keeper we simply did not need. Our class keeper is sent on loan with LFC paying half his wages .
    Wake up people, wake up

Rodgers wont last till December, poor manager, bad decision maker, poor motivator.

Looks like FSG are serious about reducing the wage bill.
