RECENTLY retired Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has spoken to Liverpoolfc.com about the club’s signing of Ivorian Kolo Toure, and believes that his capture was a fantastic move by Brendan Rodgers.
The 32 year old made his way to Anfield on a free transfer from Manchester City in order to increase the Reds’ defensive strength, which suffered a gaping loss after Carragher’s retirement at the end of last season.
Toure’s arrival means he achieved his first landmark before playing his first competitive game – he is the first Ivorian to play for Liverpool.
Carragher, the man Toure was brought to Anfield to replace, has sung Toure’s praises and believes that the acquisition represents a good piece of business for the club.
Speaking at the Steven Gerrard Foundation golf tournament, Carragher said of Toure:
“His key attributes are his experience and his winning mentality, he was part of the ‘Invincibles’ at Arsenal and to have been is an achievement in itself.
“He’s been at Man City and now he’s come to Liverpool – and he’ll add something, of course he will. He can play centre-back, he can play in a three at the back and at full-back in an emergency. It’s a very good signing by the manager of the club.”
