Would Soldado be a good fit for Liverpool?

Liverpool targetSPECULATION surrounding an imminent move for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado from Liverpool has intensified in the past week with some trusted newspapers suggesting that the Reds have already had one bid rejected for the Spanish international and are mulling over an increased offer.

The interest has sparked a mixed reaction from Liverpool supporters with some considering the move a positive one while others believe that the striker is too advanced in his years to invest such a sizable fee.

Another issue open to discussion is whether or not Soldado is being targeted as a replacement for unsettled striker Luis Suarez or as a potential partner for the Uruguayan. However, with Brendan Rodgers keen on having relatively recent signing Daniel Sturridge in his starting eleven, it is likely that the Valencia forward would be an alternative option to an outgoing Suarez.

One of the major stumbling blocks that may see the move scuppered before it develops into anything serious is the asking price of his parent club. Amadeo Salvo, chairman of Valencia, recently suggested that Soldado would not be sold for a cent less than his €30 million (£25.8 million) buyout clause.

Therein lies the problem – many fans simply do not believe such an outrageous outlay would be justified by a player that may only have two or three years of top level football left in his legs. That, coupled with the fact that Soldado would have no resale value, means that any deal for the Spaniard goes against the traditions of our stringent owners.

Nevertheless, there is no questioning the abilities of the striker. His goalscoring record speaks for itself and it is one that reads very impressive. Soldado, in 397 career games, has managed to bag himself 193 goals. That equates to almost a goal every two games – a record similar to the one Suarez currently has at Liverpool.

In the past five La Liga seasons, Soldado has helped himself to 115 goals in 207 appearances for Getafe and Valencia and is arguably entering the peak of his career.

Therefore, as you can see, there is an argument for and against a move for the striker although, ultimately, it will be down to Brendan Rodgers and FSG whether or not the club stump up the money to secure his signature in a summer where all the top clubs are looking to spend a lot of money to improve their already lavish squads.

Although his signing would be regarded as a somewhat short-term solution, if Soldado was able to settle into life in England quickly, a potential partnership with Sturridge assisted by the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard could conceivably be full of goals as well as attractive, attacking football.

That is why, personally, I think it would be a fantastic move for Liverpool. However, I have to question whether or not £25.8million is a lot of money for a player who is approaching his thirties.

What are your thoughts? Would Soldado be the sort of signing you would want to see at Liverpool? Or would you prefer somebody a little younger and with more room for improvement?

SPECULATION surrounding an imminent move for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado from Liverpool?

He doesn’t play for liverpool. Please proof read before posting.

  • Sash says:

With all the rumors in regards to Suarez and the possibility that the club is for sale, a couple of big signings like, Soldado and Bernard will show ambition and intent. Need to splash some serious cash on a couple of players.

  • Mark says:

It’s all irreverent as he’s literally signed for Spurs now. Fee agreed and medical tomorrow.

  • allaboutanfield says:

Again Spurs beat us to it. 😮

  • kizito says:

I don’t think Sold ado is a perfect replacement for Luis. Lwondiwsiki from BD should be the man

  • Imran Bobo says:

Situation now look like Arsenal try to sabotaj LFC.They are now playing tug awar game. They want to sign Luis Suarez but not able to make high payment for his talent. Now Luis Suarez is going to argue with LFC about transfer request. If he failed to leave LFC, he will found struggle or unsettle life with LFC.If departured nearly transfer window nearly close so LFC will be making panic buying who sometimes will cost with no quality signing.

  • allaboutanfield says:

No point in keeping an unhappy player at LFC . Might as well to cash him out while someone willing to offer high price for him.

  • ody says:

With Higuain gone now, Madrid just have to add 15m – 20M to his fee and bid for Suarez. I’d rather see him move to Madrid for 40m than Arsenal for 50m. I’d prefer Burak Yilmaz and Eriksen for a combined fee of 40m than Soldado for 25M. Add a fee for Toby or Papa. And we are good to go. Maybe Downing should go too for Ben Arfa.

  • vicky says:

Make money from unhappy man suarez and bring soldado and muriel of udineze to liverpoolfc we ll surelly shame the unhappy man. YNWA

  • REDDY says:

The only rumour I wish happened was that Saudi oil giants Aramco wants to buy LFC… They rated the wealthiest company in the world and would over shadow the Man City owners..now I’m not the 1 for ‘money buys u trophies’ attitude but we are way behind the likes of both manchester clubs, chelsea, real madrid, barca ect.. City with their already impressive squad have bought Navas,Negredo,Jovetic and Paulinho and I don’t think they finished quite yet.. We are Liverpool, 1 of the most successful and biggest clubs in the world. So we won’t be like City, Chelsea, Psg ect ect…. We are already a Massive club!!! We just need some serious owners who want to win titles, not sell our best players. Or loan our top keeper to balance the books!!! I say FSG should sell if the rumours abt Aramco are true. YNWA!

  • REDDY says:

Sorry I meant Fernandinho instead of Paulinho…. And if liverpool do sell Suarez, I’d like them to try n sell to Madrid for Benzema and 25mil.. That would be a good deal in my opinion. Cut our losses n move on from Luis! Benzema will score 20 goals in a season n provide assists. He is e technically gifted strong Foward.. Use the 25mil to get Erriksen and Bernard/Tello/Munian . The owners were gonna make a marquee signing even if Suarez stayed so I think that signing should be a top centre back or central midfielder??? We have signed 4 players already and only spent a Net of 3mil.. So its time for the owners to step up and push us forward!!! Use the Suarez saga as a positive n make a statement.. That WE ARE LIVERPOOL fC.. I remember not so long ago when Rafa was in charge n we were feared in the Champions league! Real madrid,Barca, Bayern, UNited, CHELSEA( with there sugar daddy) They all feared us! When the draws for the knock out stages were held teams were praying not to draw LfC!!? I want those days back n if our owners don’t spend a little more then we won’t get there anytime soon…

  • Finn says:

This deal won’t happen. No way

  • Steve says:

He’ll cost more than that, Valencia insist we pay the tax as well, which is another £5m or so. I like Soldado, he could do a good job for us. But for £30m …

  • tactics says:

Soldado is a great player but @ that price? I’ll never consider bidding for him. Liverpool should buy players with resale-able value. Remember how much barca paid for Villa and how much he was sold. After how many seasons? For me Muriel, Morata or even Luc Castaignos will be a perfect signing for us. Not an old man with huge wages and price tag

  • Liverpool target Soldado says:

I think two or three years are okay for a player’s influence.

  • ReddishCharles says:

Soldado transfer fee is against his age, l will rather want Reds go for Muriel (small fee and younger), then that Galatasaray forward.
However, Fellow Uruguayan national and friend of Suarez, Edinson Cavani shed some light on Suarez’s thought process this summer, tellingthe Mirror:
We have been speaking a lot and, while I can’t tell you everything, I can tell you that he is desperate to start playing Champions League football.
Liverpool already know that, though, becausehe has told them.
I think if he thought Liverpool would qualify for Champions League football next season he would stay but, with the other top teams in England adding players, he doesn’t think Liverpool have the resources to break into the Champions League spots.
Suarez has a point, Liverpool haven’t shown that they have the resources to compete withthe most elite clubs in the league, but Arsenal haven’t done much to show that they can do so either.
Despite plenty of rumors surrounding the club this summer, Arsene Wenger has yet to make any big signings that would indicate it can improve next season.
Of course, Suarez himself would change that, but as Cavani told the Mirror, Suarez “doesn’t want to leave on bad terms because he respects the club and fans, but he needs to achieve his dreams in the game.”

  • Liam says:

At this point I’m just waiting for the transfer window to end. Don’t think they will sign anyone though. Been dissapointed be not signing henrikh and the ongoing speculation of the two Ajax players. Still if we did sell Suarez, I’m confident Liverpool will have a replacement or replacements that will cover the move. So here’s to hoping..

  • Rai Reds says:

Get rid of a players that doesn’t want to be there, his body language has already shower that in pre season training, it’s bad morale for the club and team going forward

  • Rai Reds says:

Lets get rid of a player that doesn’t want to be there, his body language has already shown that in pre season training, it’s bad morale for the club and team going forward trying to build success on and off the pitch. YNWA LFC JFT96

  • red says:

FSG won’t invest anymore while waiting for potential buyers for LFC. As speculated, you can buy LFC for mere 350m. I just have HIGH hope that the speculated deal will go on.
