Liverpool guaranteed two more years of legend

LFC legendI am absolutely delighted that Steven Gerrard has signed a new contract.

The skipper put pen to paper last Monday to extend his contract until July 2015, two years from now.

Thankfully there have been no murmurings about his future, it’s just pleasing to see that his body is obviously fit enough for at least another two years of top flight football.

Gerrard is of course more than just a player to Liverpool Football Club, he is an icon. A hero. A legend. And in the current team he is a vastly experienced head amidst a young team, a man who we will need next season more than ever to help guide us through the next phase of our rebuilding process.

We are a team and a squad littered with young players and we don’t have enough players like Steven Gerrard, especially with the retirement of Jamie Carragher at the end of the last season.

I could go on and on about how good a player Gerrard is but we all know that. He has fit seamlessly into Rodgers’ formation and thrives in it. To say how good he is, is something of a fruitless endeavour.

To have him in our midfield for another two years is very good news. The fact that he is fighting fit after recovering from a shoulder injury is even better news. He played almost all our games last season and we will need him again this coming season if we hope to improve our league positioning.

His presence will be of a great service to younger midfielders such as Jordan Henderson and Joe Allen, both of whom are experienced Premier League footballers but not to the level that Gerrard is. Henderson will never be as good as Gerrard but his box to box approach is very reminiscent of a young Steven Gerrard and I can think of no better player to help hone Henderson’s learning experience.

To summarise, I’m made up Gerrard can extend his deal and I hope I get to say the same thing in a couple of years at the end of his next deal, provided of course he is up to it and is willing. But I wish to finish with what I think is a fantastic quote from Brendan Rodgers:

“He’s a real good guy and very, very humble. That’s the mark of him – with everything he’s achieved in the game, everything he’s won, he’s the current England captain and one of the best players to ever have graced the Premier League, to retain the humility that he has and still the eagerness to want to improve and be better, he is a real shining light and example for many players.”

Steven Gerrard – Hero, Icon, Legend.

Stevie and Jamie are two of the last of their kind. A rare breed. LFC should retire the no8 jersey when Gerrard hangs up his boots.

    S. Gerrard was a liability for LFC during first half of last session. His passes often directed straight to opponents or way off target. His shootings were 90% off target = wasting chances. We can’t ask anymore from the aging S. Gerrard except to grant him last LUCRATIVE contract as a token of appreciation for his PAST contribution. S. Gerrard is not consistently world class anymore, but still good enough for current pathetic LFC squad. S. Gerrard is our ex-hero. And make no mistake, the day of S. Gerrard sole effort/goals to win us a FA cup is long gone.

And currently, no one in LFC squad able to take over S. Gerrard role. LFC is predicted to go downward for a very long time until fans react.

p/s: No one can replace L. Suarez role/goals if he goes.
