LFC PrestonIT seems like it had been gone for ages but football finally returned on Saturday in the form of a friendly against Preston North End.

Granted, a friendly against a team from League One leaves a lot to be desired but it is always good to see your favourite team take the pitch after a long break. With the match came the debut of the four players Liverpool FC have signed so far and it was also the first look into where the team is headed for the start of the season.

A 4-0 scoreline may seem impressive at first glance but praise is tempered when one remembers the quality of the opponent. Still, the first of the preseason friendlies gave a glimpse at the image of the team for the upcoming campaign. However, that image may be subject to change.

An obvious change would come in the way of the departure of Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan’s desire to leave has been well-documented but only time will tell if his wish is granted. Liverpool cannot wait until the day he is sold, if it comes, to begin their attempt at replacing him. If Suarez were to leave then the Reds’ front line would begin to look thin.

One possible replacement being mentioned recently is that of Galatasaray’s Burak Yilmaz. The Turkish international tallied an impressive thirty-two goals in thirty-nine competitions last season. Regardless of whether or not Suarez leaves the Reds, fans are hopefully that Brendan Rodgers and FSG are not finished in the transfer market.

Although Liverpool lost out on the signature of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Brendan Rodgers has recently claimed that he is still in the search of one or two ‘marquee’ signings that would immediately elevate the level of play of the starting eleven.

It appears that at least one signing will be of the attacking type and could possibly be a midfield player. The Reds remain interested in Christian Eriksen of Ajax and are reportedly preparing an offer, but rumours have surfaced over their alleged interest in another young, exciting attacking-midfielder, Atletico Mineiro’s Bernard.

The young Brazilian shined brightly for Brazil in the Confederation’s Cup and he also has an impressive tally of twenty goals in ninety games for Atletico Mineiro. However, it appears that Liverpool are not alone in their pursuit of this player as Tottenham’s interest has been well documented. As the summer drags on time becomes of the essence.

Liverpool fans have endured a long wait for their return to Champions League football. It’s never easy finishing in the top four and there is sure to be strong competition this season as there always is. If Brendan Rodgers and FSG want to give the fans what they have been waiting for then they are going to have to show their determination in the transfer window.

Back in the day i would have read this whole thing…probably left angry as well and been even more perversely cynical. But being positive is a virtue my friend and I know it hurts because you love the club that much…I love it too ans though we don’t spend as much we gotta look to the players we do have, who work hard for the club and you and me. So either buck mate,or the soft equivalent of killing yourself…move on to whatever’s better for you HAHAHAHAHA
