Will we regret Rodgers giving away some LFC family silver?

Jonjo LFC SwanseaPATIENCE is a lost virtue.

The 21 year old from Romford came to Liverpool FC as the last parting gift from Rafa.

Immediately Jonjo looked like a real player for the future and at under £2 million an excellent purchase. Since then he has had enough good moments in a Liverpool FC shirt to earn an England cap and convince me he could have been the man to fill Steven Gerard’s boots.

Everything was going well for Jonjo at Liverpool FC. He has scored the winning two goals in a Europa tie against Young Boys (the last time young boys were in the news without old boys being questioned by police!) Jonjo then got himself sent off against Manchester United. I respected him for standing up to Sir Alex. That’s when it all started to go wrong. He was rusty when he returned. He didn’t kick on and started to miss sitters.

In my opinion Brendan may have fallen out with this confident young man. Jonjo is a player who shows people the respect they earn in that moment, not from their past or the sign on their door. May be he told Brendan a few too many truths?

Mr Rodgers is accredited with convincing Jonjo to join Swansea.

I have stated my opinion before regarding the soft spot Swansea’s old manager has for them. I think he has again done them a favour and given away a prised LFC asset. Since when is an England international aged 21, with a good eye for goal, only worth £5-6 million? I guess the same time Joe Allen is worth £15 million. Is Brendan giving away our future to those who once loved him?

Jonjo should have been sent on a season long loan to Crystal Palace, who’s manager knows and wants Jonjo from when he managed him on loan at Blackpool; where he scored 6 goals in 10 games but was recalled abruptly to cover midfield injuries. He has talent but has failed to fulfil his promise during the few chances he has had at LFC.

I saw Shelvey as Steven Gerrrard’s clear cut successor. He’s a full-bodied tackler with a developing eye for goal, good at heading the ball and can pick out a pass. Unfortunately it seems Liverpool don’t have the patience to help him develop or the appetite to allow him to grow on the periphery or out on loan.

Romelu Lukuka was loaned out by Chelsea and did his own development and value good as he became a key part in West Bromwich Albion’s side as they finished higher up the table than ever before. His 17 goals, 4 assists in 38 games gained everyone’s respect. He’s now back at Chelsea with a chance of getting some first team playing time. Liverpool didn’t have the good sense to do the same with this young, hungry player. A loan to a Premiership team would have been ideal to see how Jonjo would cope.

I wouldn’t sell Swansea anyone. Not because I have a problem with Swansea. I have nothing but respect for them and what they have achieved. Simply put, they don’t buy lemons! Swansea have an eye for a good player. Anyone Swansea want must be good! His full-blooded playing style will endear him to the fans. They will love him not only for his commitment and effort but also for his goals, assists and no nonsense tackling.

They want Shelvey because this England international is a good player and at 21 years old he has time to develop into becoming one of the best. I unfortunately predict Shelvey coming back to haunt us in upcoming seasons.

I for one will be betting on him scoring against us to soften the blow when he does. If there is no heavy sell-on percentage then in my opinion LFC have been fools – fools to themselves, the worst kind of fools.

An armchair fan who loves the stadium experience but likes the bread and butter of replays, moronic pundits, a drink in a pub atmosphere. LFC is my religion.

Common sense is missing from football but the situation is always complicated so I endeavour to give opinion and encourage discussion and thought about LFC.

Nah. I think BR did the right thing by selling Jonjo & Spearing. They have heart i give em that (spearing especially) but i believe they are not in BR idea of passing & attacking mould. I believe in BR because i wanna see a manager that “grow old with the club” rather than “chelsea-gate manager”. Dont get me wrong, i hate Red Nose & Manure, but to give him credit, Red Nose grow with Manure and look where he got them now. With BR, i believe we will be a force to reckon with again.

    • CHUKWUEMEKA says:

With every respect to wenger, the professor has been growing with arsenal nd we know where they are, am not in suport of doing a chelsea but when u ve the wrong one(brenda roger) in charge, the remedy is an envelope.

  • YNWA says:

I agree, over time Shelvey would have grown into a world class midfielder, he would never be a strong caption though, he lacks leadership abilities and is very shy, which was evident from Being Liverpool but as a player he was quality and would have only got better! Be interesting to see how he fairs at Swansea, given than Laudrup plays a similar style to Rodgers albeit quicker and even more attack minded!

  • thesaint says:

We can only hope that they have the sell on clause to soften the cost of buying him back.

  • Ray Maxie says:

To me BR is joke has 5 games to prove himself

  • Cou says:

Disagree. Next Stevie G? Not in a million years. Steven is 10 times the player Jonjo will ever be. Usefull sub but that’s about it. Swans bought him to fill their homegrown player quota.

  • David Tobin says:

He will be a top class player . Even now he is better than the useless Allen. Big mistake just like ince

  • Adam says:

“We can only hope we have put in a sell on clause to soften the blow” Thesaint I do believe u need professional help. I’m sorry getting rid of a useless player like that makes u sad

  • Adam says:

    U muppet

  • Mr clean says:

Made up Shelvey went great decision by BR and the club. Headless chicken with no passing ability but full of himself.

    • patrick says:

Mr clown would be more apt .

    • guest says:

Who?, Rodgers?, the “Full of himself” part, that only describes one man, in my opinion, and that is Rodgers. Shelvey had an eye for goal, can tackle, pass, and most importantly, he let the opposition midfield know he was around, our midfield is more lightweight than ever now.

  • Liam says:

A clown of a footballer. I wouldn’t let shelvey wear a Stevie g replica shirt. As a man utd said to me recently “they must have worn balaclavas when they went to Swansea to do a deal”!! And for being an England u21??? So what. England under21s are USELESS as the euros proved. He looked rubbish against ISREAL! And the senior team are no better so an England cap means sweet f*** all!!

    • guest says:

By your reckoning, that means that Allen, Borini, Assaidi, even Sturridge if we are to hand pick a few certain games and a single point in their careers, are not up to it and need to be sold, you see I could pick out the 3 games Sturridge had where he did nothing and ignore the other games completely. As for listening to Manure fans, well they are paper thin anyway, armchair fans, casual footy fans, who know little about football apart from what they read in the “Sun”. At least he had the guts to stand up to the “Drunk”, “Fergie”.

  • Kevin says:

    I agree totally

  • Jonny Cigarettes says:

Yes, this article is correct. Brendan Rodgers should do NOTHING because everything was so absolutely perfect before.

Some of you are not fit to support this team. Rodgers has done very little wrong so far and is definitely on the right track.

    • patrick says:

Lol. What a fool . Our worst season in half a century !. The guy is not fit to manage a supermarket !

    • dave o says:

Your as arrogant as Rodgers done nothing wrong, how about Borini, assaidi, allen? Then getting rid of Carrol for such a poor price, surely better to have plan b than lose 18m. Never even tried Carroll for whom everything goes through on the FLOOR!

    • guest says:

You need to open your eyes a bit, fans like you seem incapable of a critical thought process ” of your own”, “Shelvey” is a better player than “Allen” which time will show this to be true. The fans that tend to criticise Rodgers are the older fans who have seen it all before, Brendan might be better received if he could stop sucking up to the vile press, the same press that f**ked us over at every opportunity, last season…..well since the lie of Hillsborough needed protecting (the press are scum, end off). Time will tell, but I have no confidence in our manager or owners at this moment in time, too much money involved in the game for me to trust that they do “everything for the good of the club”. If Brendan was not so good at talking, you would be on his back too, that I do know, as the past has proven.

    • Vikas Dhingra says:

I want you to be right.

    • Dennis says:

Rodgers has done nearly EVERYTHING wrong . Kop on

  • Sam says:

Jonjo has ability and tremendous potential. Big mistake from Rodgers letting him go . But as we all know Rodgers oonly likes 5 ft little wimps

  • Duncan says:

Well he is not Rodgers type of player. BR likes Hobbits.

  • Liam says:

I hope this decision will bite us in the butt.. But how many of Liverpool players have had success since they left the club?

  • Michael says:

    Rafa rated him
    King Kenny rated him

    Rodgers didn’t

Now who should we trust ?
2 top managers with over 20 major trophies between them – or a useless guy who doesnt even know what a trophy looks like

We all know the answer ti this – yea we trust rafa n Kenny over David Brent anyday

  • Emmanuel says:

You guyz should leave Br to do his job…..he knws his style of playing nd he knws player who cn fit the style of playing….if other player liverpool sale those nt harm us i dont jonjo cn do dat…..i think jonjo should go 4 boxing….

    • guest says:

“He knows his style of playing”, is this the style which involved passing it along the back four, across the midfield with the occasional forward pass thrown in?, or the style of pass and move which has been a Liverpool hallmark for decades?, in which we basically reverted back to in order to gain a few wins as “Rodgers” style was non productive, naïve and stank of inexperience. The sale of Jon-Jo makes little sense to me, are we not short of combative, tough tackling midfielders?, or this kind of player in general throughout the whole team?, was it not said all last season how we need players who are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in?, not to mention the fee involved, Swansea must be rubbing their hands with glee.

  • ian nz says:

i hope br makes u all eat your words.i wish jonjo all da best and hope he does well. im excited by the football lfc are playing.get passed all the bull and the past move on and foward long term like we once were YNWA

  • Dolph says:

Jonjo was useless! Br z buyin scrap ,whats next??

  • Franknero says:

D likes of allen nd borini must be put for sale while jonjo who came 4 a small amount nd he is delivering BR shuld knw wat he is doing cos if he finishes dis season without any silver ware he must be sacked.
