REPORTS in the Spanish and Italian media claim that Fiorentina could try and make a move for Xabi Alonso, in an attempt to foil a potential return to Liverpool for free next season.
The Real Madrid midfielder’s current contract expires next summer, but has so far been reluctant to pen a new deal at Santiago Bernabeu as he wants longer terms.
The former Liverpool favourite has been linked with an emotional return to Anfield on more than one occasion, as well as possible switches to Juventus or Chelsea.
But Spanish radio station Cadena SER believe that Fiorentina could now be in the driving seat after former Liverpool scout Eduardo Macia, who is now technical director at the Italian club, is reported to have contacted the player and his agent to try to convince the Basque to sign for their club, as reported on Tutto Sport.
Il Viola are said to be considering whether to send an offer now, in an attempt to hijack any potential Anfield return, or wait 10 months and try and persuade the 31-year-old to join them next summer on a free transfer.
