Toure to defy medics and return early?

LiverpoolThe Liverpool Echo are today reporting that new cult hero Kolo Toure is battling to be fit for Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Manchester United.

32 year old Toure left Anfield on Tuesday night – after the 4-2 win over Notts County in the Capital One Cup – on crutches and was expected to be out injured for anywhere up to 6 weeks.

However the injury is not as severe as first feared and he has responded excellently to treatment.

Toure will be reassessed today but manager Brendan Rodgers will hope that Toure is able to take his place in the heart of the Liverpool defence for the first big clash of the season at Anfield on Sunday lunchtime.

Toure has been a revelation since arriving at Anfield on a free transfer during the summer, putting in two excellent performances in the Reds league wins and helping the team keep clean sheets in both games.

With Liverpool continuing to be frustrated in their chase for defensive reinforcements Toure’s quick return from injury would be the shot in the arm the team need after an ultimately disappointing performance overall on Tuesday evening.

Liverpool are hoping that Mamadou Sakho or Tiago Ilori will join before Sunday’s game but neither would be expected to make their debuts in such a high profile game.

Listen to the medics Kolo, as much as LFC needs you for MU match..its not worth further worstening your injury..we still need you for 34 games in the league. The lack of defenders available is not your fault..its FSG’s. Their ego will drive potential players to be snapped up by other clubs particularly by Spurs.

  • James Russell says:

chill Raam we just signed thiago ilori and 95% sakho, keep the faith us scousers are not runners.

    • Chris Leonard says:

I agree wit Raam Ilori and Sakho cannot just be expected to be put in such high profile game in such short notice. They would need some time to get use to the team strategy, mentality and tactics.

  • Haji Najmi says:

Why sorts of very desperate ? Brendan Rodgers should give a chance to new faces to prove their capabilities in large and prestigious tournament

  • Marc says:

    Come on kolo, you Ledgend!

  • REGHAN says:

FSG sucks they have been dragging their feet and now all our top targets have been snapped up by other teams. Simply gutted to see Eriksen join Spurs We need new owners like Abramovich or the Man City sheikh. Yanks out

just heard we ve signed thiago but dont know how true it is, hope we get sacko cos thiago is too young for that backline.

  • Alex fergie says:

Raam you have no idea how a real club is run.

  • Alex fergie says:

Raam I’ve read your comments on this site and you are always negative about lfc. Good for me. If toure doesnt play mu has a better chance to win and if fsg is gone idiots from Emirates will want to buy LFC. 4 of the biggest team in the solar system is not owned by saudi or Arabs.

  • Raam says:

Alex, if you ‘re a regular here, go through my comments. I have neither questioned any of the players that have been brought nor BR’s way of football. What i want is FSG to bring reinforcements for the positions that needs it. Did i condemned FSG for the way they run the club? I dont think so..but now that they have brought Ilori,Sakho and Moses, i’m more than happy. By the way Alex, where were you all this while? Liverpool wins 2 games in a row, without conceding and suddenly Alex Fergie sprouts.
