DrogbaANFIELD legend Jamie Carragher is confident that new summer signing, Mamadou Sakho, has what it takes to hold his own at Liverpool because he has actually played alongside the young Frenchman, according to the club’s official website.

The 23 year old, formerly at Paris Saint-Germain, finalised a deal with the Reds on transfer deadline day. It now transpires that Sakho has already had a taste of the Liverpool talent – whilst playing alongside Carragher in a charity match 18 months ago.

Organised by former Liverpool boss, Gerard Houllier, the two defenders played the match together and afterwards, Carragher was keen to profess his admiration for Sakho.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Carragher said:

“I played alongside Sakho, how did it go? Well we won 2-1! I talked him through it and he was fine.”

Despite his young age, Sakho has already garnered an impressive 201 appearances for PSG, and has even notched 7 goals for the Ligue 1 side from his defensive position. He has experience in Champions League football, is known as a tough tackler and a hard worker, and can now boast the admiration of Jamie Carragher.

Carragher said of the the Frenchman: “He’s at a great age, physically he’s ready for the Premier League, it will just be interesting to see where the manager brings him in, he’s left-sided and there’s competition for places everywhere now.”

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.
