Liverpool defenderLIVERPOOL FC centre-back Martin Skrtel had no intention of leaving the Reds during the summer transfer window according to the Liverpool Echo.

After a summer of speculation and injury, Martin Skrtel came in and produced arguably a man of the match performance against Manchester United on the weekend.

In an interview with The Liverpool Echo, Skrtel assures fans that there was never a chance of him leaving Anfield, saying:

“The rumours were never as strong as it was made out. There was no contact with other clubs because the Liverpool management told me that they were counting on me. That is why a transfer was never in my plans.”

With Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers bringing in Kolo Toure, Tiago Ilori, Aly Cissokho and Mamadou Sakho during the summer the Reds could easily play a whole new back four this season. Again though Skrtel is not worried, and went on to say:

“Players come, players leave, it’s a normal thing and we will see how that develops.”

There was talk of Skrtel being allowed to leave after the Manchester United game and perhaps it was a chance to put himself into the shop window, Skrtel disagreed though:

“I never considered the United game to be a chance to show that I deserved to stay at Liverpool. It was a big derby but I treated it as just another league game.”

Hopefully Skrtel can continue this good form and give Rodgers a selection headache for the game away to Swansea in two weeks time.

Well we all know what he is capable of. It’s a matter of him doing it consistently. His future at Liverpool is in his own hands. No ones forcing him out. But he needs to play like that regularly. ( the UTD Game. )
