Liverpool FCLiverpool FC have moved a step closer to the £260 million redevelopment of Anfield today after Liverpool Council gave the go ahead for the compulsory purchase of the properties required, reports The Liverpool Echo.

The £260 million Anfield development will create over 700 jobs and will lead to the refurbishment of over 500 homes also, although 700 will be demolished.

While many have been bought up over the years to allow work to go ahead, around 30 remain outside the developers’ control.

On Friday next week, members of Liverpool council’s cabinet will be asked to approve, in principle, the use of compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) to smooth the scheme’s path.

Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson said:

“We have had overwhelming support from local residents and businesses for our plans and there is unarguable public interest in driving these proposals forward.

“The people of Anfield have been let down too often in the past. We will not let them down again.

“We remain confident that we will be able to acquire properties without having to resort to CPOs but want to get agreement for them should they be required. The legal justification for CPOs, should they be needed, is unequivocal.”

Redevelopment of Anfield is the preferred choice of owners Fenway Sports Group as they try to increase Liverpool’s match day income and also increase the number of fans who can attend home games to watch the Reds.

Where are Liverpool gonna get £260 million from? Are the Council helping to pay for it?

Guys for those whining about debt on the club what the hell do you expect ? Do we just stagnate and not grow while others pass us by or do we be active and do something .

Yes there will be debt but I’m sure FSG have done their sums carefully and accounted for the extra debt. Don’t forget extra seating brings in extra revenue and more corporate seating which will help to pay for the expansion

I totally understand why some are apprehensive about the debt after the last owners debacle but I’m hoping three years of fast stability and smooth ownership proves they are decent owners. At the end of the day they will want to make money and by them growing the club and hopefully CL back at the club soon, the clubs value will rise

Nicely done FSG so far they’ve gotten rid of all the deadwood from the club who were happy to sit on their holes collecting their massive wages and do sweet f a on the pitch to deserve them. Then they got us one of the best young managers around to improve the squad and move it forwards. (don’t get me wrong I adore King Kenny and word’s fail to do justice for all he’s done for LFC and the city of Liverpool over the years). But given the choice of Brendan or gollum up the road Brendan Rodgers wins every time. And now they’re giving us fans the refurbished Anfield that we’ve all wanted for decades I for one always wanted the team to stay in Anfield and not move to a new stadium. With a 60,000 capacity don’t get me wrong I think it should be at least a 70,000 seater but at least 15,000 extra fans will get to see the mighty Reds play every home game now. Joint top of the table happy days back at Anfield what more could any honest LFC fan ask for.

This is a good business decision made by FSG to redevelop Anfield instead of building a brand new stadium at Stanley Park. Financially wise it is cheaper and does not take much financing. With increased seating capacity at Anfield it is hoped that matchday revenue will also increase.

don’t quote me on this,,but am i right in saying that there is 80,000 fans waiting in the wings for season tickets.read it somewhere a while back 2yrs maybe.70,000 is a more realistic capasity for the stadium.rogers will be top one day he’s got a good head on him.

As FSG has stated, the money for the stadium has been put aside by them already and won’t hamper B.R future transfer kitty’s. So now that the last obstacles have seemingly been removed, we can press on and look forward to a bright future under the guidance of FSG and B.R. YNWA
