LiverpoolLIVERPOOL FC’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva spoke to the Liverpool Echo about how he feels this year is going to be fantastic for team-mate Luis Suarez.

In the Uruguayan’s first league appearance since his 10 game ban, his performance helped the Reds return to winning ways. Suarez had two reasons to celebrate on Sunday after the birth of his new son.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 3-1 win away at Sunderland where Suarez scored two of the three goals Lucas said:

“Luis has just become a father again and for him to celebrate with two goals, I am very happy for him.”

Lucas went on to say: “He is showing again just how good he is. He is a world class player and it is so important to have players like that if you want to fight for good things this season.

“Hopefully he will have another fantastic season for us like he did last year.”

Lucas spent the summer worrying that he would not get to play alongside his good friend again after months of speculation:

“Everyone was a bit worried as there was a lot of talk during the transfer window, but I’m so glad that he’s still with us,” he added

“Luis showed today with his performance that he is really committed to the team and to the club. He just wants to help us and we will try to help him too.”

Hopefully there will be plenty more performances like Sunday in the future for Suarez and for the Reds.

Suarez: “Lucas is stating the obvious. Of course, I am a world-class footballer. Wish I could say the same about him or the other Liverpool players with the exception of Steven Gerrard.”

  • red says:

Lucas was trying to persuade Suarez staying at LFC. And also a signal to management that Suarez is the irreplaceable key man at the moment.

  • FSG Out says:

Lucas has been here 7 years under 4 different managers and still talks about a ‘fantastic future’? When is he ever gonna grow a pair and man up?
