AFTER the disappointing result at the Emirates on Saturday night, I thought I would try and lighten the mood.
As you know, my articles this season have been mainly on analysis; giving you my opinion and perception of the game Liverpool played that weekend in the league.
This week I want to try something totally different, I would like the readers of Live4liverpool to give me your opinions and ideal scenarios to the following question (just imagine Brendan Rodgers as Santa Claus!)
“Dear Brendan all I want for Christmas is..?”
You may be surprised I am asking you this in November but after all, there is only 48 days till the big day!
However I would like you all to use the comments section at the end of the article for you to tell me your Top 3 answers to the question and the reasons behind them (answers relating to Liverpool please and not what you would like for Christmas!)
This way readers can try and have a healthy debate to see if everyone is thinking along the same lines.
To get you started here are my three (Brendan, I hope you are reading this!)
1. Keep hold of Luis Suarez in the January transfer window and beyond.
2. Purchase a creative midfielder in January.
3. Collect ten points out 12 during the Christmas fixture period.
Now you may be wondering why I selected those as my Top 3 ideal scenarios, so here’s my reasons behind them.

It is paramount that the club dig their heels in and resist the temptation to accept ANY bids from clubs for our number 7 – like they did in the summer. I know he has had his controversial moments wearing the red of Liverpool but our Luis is the best forward we have had in over 10 years, and we need him and Sturridge to fire us to were the club needs to be and that is the Champions League.
I would like Rodgers to invest in a quality creative midfielder to add more depth to our squad and to give us that cutting edge in a midfield three that Brendan does like to operate during games. Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso would be my choice I have mentioned previously that we miss his passing, drive and creative spark and this would enhance the team.
The beauty of Xabi re-joining the club (miracles do happen, just remember Istanbul) he can play as defensive midfielder as well – operating as a deep lying midfielder would allow Alonso to pull the strings within the midfield and act as a shield to the back four and give stability in that area of the pitch. At times this season and again on Saturday night against Arsenal players could go through our midfield with ease and this is something which needs to be addressed.
Finally, Liverpool play the following four fixtures during the festive period:
21st December: Cardiff at Anfield
26th December: Manchester City at the Etihad
29th December: Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
1st January: Hull at Anfield
It important to take maximum points in three of the four fixtures. If we could win all four and take 12 points it would be fantastic but 10 out of 12 would be great, especially if we are still in the mix in top four positions of the table.
Of course we have tricky away trips to both Manchester City and Chelsea but if we play to our very best we can beat them – we have to believe; after all this season is proving that any team in the league can beat anyone.

The guy is doing the best he can with the peanut money FSG have been giving him. He is young, but he is a good manager.
He has his flaws and weaknesses like any manager: He doesn’t know how to change game when opposition are coming onto us, or when we need to start dictating play and keeping hold of possession.
Rodgers needs the owners to give him 60-70M IN January to bring in 6 class, quality players who will set the ground running straight away: Rodgers can no longer waste millions on potential: As his defensive signings have been good, but most of his attacking signings have been abyzmal and poor to say the least. (Alberto, Assaidi, Aspas and Borini) Coutinho and Sturridge have been class,quality signings.
But where our club are weak now is in:
GK: We have no real class, competition or Cover for Mignolet, Centre midfield, we lack mobility, pace, Power,strength, creativity, depth, competition for places and goals in the centre of park and Out wide we lack class, creativity, consistancy and goals.
The 60-70M is needed on :
1 GK to compete and cover Mignolet for next 5- 7 years at the club : A Mccarthy(23) Of Reading for 5-7M and two loan signings to go other way to sweet: Kelly and IBE
5 Midfielders: 3 Central Midfielders an 2 quick pacey creative consistant perfoming , Goalscoring wide men:
2 creative/Offensive Midfielders to eventually replace and take over from the amazing great loyal S Gerrard:
Koke(21) Of A Madrid for 14-20M and Y Cabaye(27) For 12-15M, These two creative/offensive goalscoring midfielders will bring class, quality, quality competition for places, depth and goals to side.
1 Mobile pacey strong tough tackiling defensive midfielder to compete and cover lucas for next 2-4 years: Fernando(26) Of Porto or M’Vila(23) Of Rubin Kazan, one of these mobile quick sstrong tough tackling defensive midfielders needs to be brought to club in January for 10-14M
2 Class creative pacey quick goalscoring wingers:
RW /RWF: M Salah(21) Of Basle/ Basel for 10-15M
LW / LWF: B Arfa (26) Of Newcastle for 12-15M
These 6 players would Guarantee the club top 2-4 this season

Lets compare midfield centres to see if we are on par with any of them:
Man City have : Yaya, Fernandinho, Garcia, Nasri and Silva
Chelsea have: Ramires, lampard, Oscar, Mata, Obi Mikel, Essien.
Arsenal have: Arteta, Cazorla, Ozil, Ramsey, Rosicky and Wiltshire. ( And also Diaby)
Tottenham have: Capoue, Dembele, Eriksen, Paulinho and Sigurrdsson.
We have Allen, Henderson, Coutinho, Gerrard( On his last legs), Slow,immobile Lucas.
And you think its fantasy football that we need 3 centre midfielders in January, every side except us has two creative offensive attacking goalscoring centre midfielders. Yet we only have one, who has been injured for last 5-6 games.
And we all wonder why we were out played convincingly by Arsenal, who had no pace or speed in their attack as Gnabry, Oxlaide – Chamberlain, Podolski and Walcott were not available.
Its because they have at least 3-4 creative offensive mobile attacking centre midfielders available at club ( Cazorla, Ozil, Ramsey and Rosicky), Chelsea have two( Mata and Oscar), Man City have two ( Nasri and Silva) Tottenham have two( Eriksen and Sigurdsson) , whilst we have one ( Coutinho)
So fool Aaron, before you try talking rubbish and pipping up about fantasy football, its not fantasy football its honest truth. The amazing great loyal servant S Gerrard needs to be rested, he no longer has the legs for it as this season has been exposed numerous times. Everyone knows he is still world class, but he is not mobile or quick anymore, so when he is pressured he makes alot of mis timed and over hit passes.
Allen and Henderson are both mobile and have a bit of pace about them but they are both average at best and both lack class, creativity and both choke near goal.
Aaron, when you understand football and know anything come back to me, Rodgers only plays the 2 5 2 formation as Enrique and Johnson offer more class, creativity, width and goals from out wide than any of the wingers we have at club.
So lack of creativity, mobility, speed, steel, toughness, competition for places, depth and goals in side, how is that going to be sorted out without serious investment Aaron?
Who is going to take over from Gerrard next year? And please do not be stupid and say Allen or Henderson, as they are both average at best and if that was going to be the case, Main man S Gerrard would be getting the much needed rest in games he needs to regularly perform. He should not be playing week in week out, for over decade he has single handly carried the team on his back and it is now taking its toll on him and it would. He is not 23, he is 33. Over 60 games a season for club and country a year, for over 10 years.
We need 60-70m for the 6 players i mentioned , this is not fantasy football iits a fact, if we do not make champions league this season Suarez is off . And without those 6 players, we will fall out of the champions league places come December.
Look how badly we have missed Enrique or Johnson in games, god forbid anything happens to Suarez, Sturridge or Gerrard at the same time.

Rodgers should spend 31M on bringing B Arfa(26) LW / LWF and Y Cabaye(27) CM to the club in January. And 36m on M’Vila(23) Of Rubin Kazan DM, M Salah(21) Of Basel ( RW / RWF) and A Mccarthy(23) Of Reading GK.
Cabaye would offer the club more class, creativity and goals than Allen and Henderson together. And he is a very good player, we need him more than Arsenal need him. Arsenal are blessed with creative offensive centre midfielders, they need a mascherano type defensive midfielder desperately like we do though.
Arsenal offered Newcastle 10M for Cabaye and his head turned, if Rodgers offers between 14-17M i am sure we will land him in January

The thing is the positions we have needed to strengthen for many years out wide, we have but not with class or quality players.
We had world class centre mid at one stage: Alonso, Gerrard, Hamman, Sissoko and Mascherano. When Gerrard was at his peak.
And we have never replaced the class and quality of Alonso and Mascherano in midfield, so that still needs to be sorted. Plus the fact our great loyal servant S Gerrard is on his last legs and is coming to the end. Three class, quality midfielders need to be brought to club: 2 creative offensive goalscoring midfielders and a quick mobile strong tough tackling defensive midfielder is needed.
We have lacked class, quallity, consistant performing , goalscoring wingers for over a decade. The last time we had class, quality wingers on either wing was when we had Mcmanaman on one wing and MCateer on the other wing.
Over the years the likes of Nunez, Zenden, Gonzalez, Pennant, Riera, Bennayoun, Kuyt, M Rodriguez have really not cut it. Kuyt was a hard worker and good grafter, who scored some very important games for team. But he was not an out and out winger. And M Rodriguez scored goals here and there but was not aa consistant performer.
Where as the best wingers in world football today create or score regularly 15-50 goals between them a season( Pedro, Bale, Di Maria, Robben, Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Ribery,Reus and Sanchez) and are indivually worth £25-£100M those type of wingers. we have three wingers at club ( Ibe, Moses and Sterling) who between them will struggle to score 12 goals a season between all of them.
So its blatantly obvious where we need to strengthen and to fix up to compete realistically with Man City, Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham for whole course of the season, some serious investment is needed. For those key positions to be sorted out
I agree about maxi being a waste of time but not kuyt, although I’m sure fans other teams would think he offered noting but legs. For me he gave more, he got more then the odd goal as well as a fair few assists. On attack he used to drift into the LB-LCB Chanel causing confusion for the LCB, Whether to pick him up or not. Didn’t get that many goals out of it but left the front man more space.

Think by putting up prices you invite way more criticism. I’m mean koke for 20 would you sell countinho for 20? Cabaye and Ben arfa for 30. Newcastle would look for 30 for Cabaye alone. No way would they let Ben arfa go for less then 20.

Cabaye is 27yrs old and wnats to play for a better club, if our club offered between 14-16M , i am sure we will get him., We were mugged off once by Newcastle with the A carroll signing, never again. B Arfa(26) is a class, quality player but his contract is nearly up and he does not want to sign a new contract so we could get him for 10-15M definately.
I have changed my player lists a few times, but i have always thought B Arfa should have been signed two years ago and the players i mentioned we should have gone for, Tottenham end up taking some of them. So i have had to change options, Koke, Cabaye, M’Vila,Arfa and Salah are all class, quality creative players in the class and quality of Coutinho, Gerrard, Sturridge and Suarez.

Let’s bring back the man who brought in 76 while at the club only 13 you could consider a success. If I’m not mistaken that is an average of 1every 7 transfers he got right.
Rodgers has brought in 15 players and only 4 so far have been a success. Coutinho,Sturridge,kolo and migs that’s an average of 1 every 4 players.
Rafa brought in something like 25 players on free transfers. Not all but enough were given very good wages to come and play reserve team football. As well as massive back room staff. Crippling our wage structure.
G+H might have been a pair of cowboys. But those of you who think rafa loved the club couldn’t be more wrong. For me we only need 2 players an attacking left and right back. The left back is more urgent, would like a well established LB but shaw looks to good to pass up. The price would be very steep. Gonna be looking at over 25 million depending on interest for other clubs and how desperate the saints are to keep him. For the RB I really don’t know. Would prob have to come from aboard as on the right here their isn’t much. Needs to be able to push Johnson.

V united. 1.0. Win. Both play.
V swansea 2.2 draw Johnson missing
V southhamton 0.1 loss. Johnson missing. Enrique comes on after 57 min cause had been struggling with a niggle.
V united. 1.0. Loss Johnson missing. Cup
V Sunderland 1.3 win. Johnson missing.
V crystal palace 3.1 Johnson missing.
V Newcastle. 2.2 draw Enrique missing.
V west brom. Win 4.1 Enrique missing.
V arsenal. 2.0 loss. both missing.
We have had 2 games this season where we had our full/wing backs playing at the same time.
Both were missing for the arsenal loss and only Enrique played against Southampton from the 57min on.
We need more depth in those area first off.
Would like to know if anyone has ideas for the right and left back spots.
