Luis-SuarezLUIS Suarez has won the FSF (Football Supporters Federation) player of the year award.

The prolific Uruguayan, who captained Liverpool to victory at White Hart Lane on Sunday, received his award at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium on Monday night after he topped the poll ahead of fellow nominees Robin van Persie, Pablo Zabaleta, Leighton Baines, Christian Benteke and Juan Mata. More than 500,000 votes were cast by fans up and down the country.

In an interview after winning the award, which you can view here, Suarez talked of his delight at how Liverpool fans had stood by him despite his summer long transfer saga.

He also stated the importance of the next few weeks for his club, saying that if Liverpool can come through tough away trips to Chelsea and Manchester City, they could then be considered challengers for the Premier League title.

Suarez has 17 goals in just 11 league games this season.
