Reds Dominant at PFA Awards

Liverpool's Luis Suarez, right, with the player of the year award and Eden HazardAs expected, Luis Suarez picked up the PFA Player of the Year award on a day when Liverpool found the Premier League title taken out of their hands with just 2 games left to play. Sunday’s opponents, Chelsea, saw Eden Hazard pick up the young player’s award.

While the individual trophies will offer little consolation to Reds players, fans and Brendan Rodgers it is, however, a further demonstration of just how far Liverpool have come in such a short space of time under Rodgers that Liverpool dominated nominations across both categories.

Meanwhile, Suarez, Sturridge and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard all made the PFA Team of the Year. Though, strangely, there was no place for Martin Skrtel after a barnstorming season for the Reds at both ends of the field. Indeed, at the beginning of play on Sunday afternoon.

In the women’s section, Reds defender Lucy Bronze claimed the Player of the Year award, whilst her young team mate, Martha Harris, won the Young Player of the Year award after Liverpool’s ladies dominated the women’s division last season.

Hopefully, all Reds will be able to step up in the last two games of the season and luck will be on their side when Manchester City visit our neighbours Everton at Goodison Park next weekend, so that these individual awards aren’t just a bitter-sweet consolation prize at the end of an incredible season so far.
