With the opening of the 2014 summer transfer window barely weeks away, Liverpool have again been linked with Valencia’s former Spain U21 play-maker, Dani Parejo.
Previously linked with the Reds during the January transfer window, and in March, Parejo would be in the £15-20 million range, but considering Liverpool’s interest in Southampton’s Adam Lallana (himself touted at a minimum of £20 million), it’s unclear whether manager Brendan Rodgers is simply keeping his options open.
Of course, it could all simply be rumours, but given Rodger’s believed long-term interest in the Spaniard, who’s abilities fall right into Brendan’s ball-park, with season-long pass-completion of over 87%, it wouldn’t be too difficult to see Liverpool making a move for Parejo if other targets become unavailable or too expensive.
While the Spanish midfielder can play in a number of positions in the midfield and has – as you would expect of a Spanish footballer – a great deal of technical ability, it is quite unclear as to what he would bring to Liverpool’s already talented midfield.
Having managed only 5 goals and 10 assists across 3 full seasons for Valencia, his game clearly doesn’t really on any tangible ‘end-product’ but instead is fairly similar to former Red, Xabi Alonso’s play-style, with an almost metronome-like passing and the ability to keep play ticking over, as well as that rare skill in modern football of barely losing the ball.
At £20 million though, many would see him as too much of a risk, for seemingly such little reward and at the age of 25 and without a senior Spanish cap to his name, he may well provide a 2nd or 3rd choice, albeit a very expensive one, if more desirable targets are again not acquired.
I’m sure Rodgers has a list of midfielders he wants with Lallana and Dani Parejo on it.
Already bored with rumours .I still feel that lfc will miss its targetted players to other clubs .no lesson has been taken and seems like lfc is making way for other clubs once more .the lallana deal is taking too much time ,what will be the excuse this time ?
Please not lalana . Another overpriced big fish in a small pond. Overhyped for being English as if this is 1966. England are average at best. I do not understand the premium. The lad played league 1 3 years ago. Now ready to play against the best in Europe? The press does my head in
And 20m for a spanish under 21 is good value? If you’re spanish everyone gets excited. Why is that?
I agree, Stevie. If he’s even close to the technical ability and skill of Xabi Alonso then he’s a steal at 20 mil but he’s 25 and never been capped by Spain so that starts ringing alarm bells.
Bcos English are overrated right.
I think the foreign players are over rated. How many mediocre/rubbish foreign players are there clogging up the premier league? Lots
The lallana deal is taking to long, lol it’s been a week? Calm down buddy.
