Can Becomes Second Liverpool Signing

Central Midfield - Emre CanSo, in the blink of an eye, Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can becomes Liverpool and Brendan Rodger’s second signing of a summer transfer window that’s only been open for 5 days.

With the World Cup looming, the club and Rodgers had made it clear that they wanted the majority of Liverpool’s transfer business sorted out before the first game next Thursday and with Can and Rickie Lambert now having signed on the dotted line it appears that those wishes are quickly becoming a reality.

The 20 year old Germany U21 international has signed for a fee of just under £10 million and, while he has signed a contract, will only officially sign for the club on July 1st but the deal is sealed, as confirmed by the club below:

While Can is eligible to play for Turkey, he is highly thought of in Germany, which is no doubt why his former club Bayern Munich were so keen to have a buy-back clause in his contract when he signed for then manager Sami Hyypia’s Bayer Leverkusen, and his move to the Reds will no doubt see him receive a call from Germany before too long.

With 5 goals in 39 games during his single season for Leverkusen, Can will be looking to make the huge step up to playing for LFC and will no doubt be hoping to make his mark during pre-season.

While it is, as yet, unclear as to what role Brendan Rodgers has in mind for Can, he is likely considered to be an understudy for Steven Gerrard. Strangely, given his age and lack of experience, Can’s 7 games in Europe last season will see him being one of Liverpool’s more experienced European players next season.

The signing of Can will no doubt have Liverpool fans excited to see the youngster and for the prospect of more speedy signings before next week.

i honestly like the look of this guy! and his willingness to play anywhere he’s required to by the team/manager is also refreshing.
but… my main concern is his disciplinary record. if brendan can work his magic and sort out his issues then i think we have a heck of player joining us.

Yes, I think many fans will know very little about him but the fact his move was pushed through so quickly is a sign of how highly Brendan rates him.

“CAN” will only be a great player if he’ll be able to work as hard as Henderson. From a no body to the club’s Most important player. We lost the league because he was Suspended.

Seen him play. No nonsence tough tackler. Great going forward and good header. If he continues to play similarly and improve, there’s going to be a lot of bruised legs, bodies and egos next season. With him,Lambert, Skrtle, Agger , additional goals from corners looks very promising. And now go for Moreno, Shaqiri, Sanchez and Lallana .Looking forward for EPL to start.
