Alberto MorenoAs if the rumours over the past week weren’t already enough, 21 year old Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno’s own club Sevilla have now confirmed that Liverpool are in for their young star.

Speaking today, Sevilla president Jose Castro said “It’s true that there’s interest from Liverpool and we’re waiting to see if that turns into a reality, which right now, it isn’t.”

The president’s words would seem to suggest that, while there is interest from the Reds, there has yet to be a formal bid. Or at least one which matches the clubs’ valuation of the player, and Castro seemed adamant that the club were not in a position where they would be forced to accept a lower offer for Moreno (or any of the club’s players), as he went on to say “What I’m clear about is that we’ll not force anyone to stay at Sevilla.

“Whoever wants to leave can do so, but we’ll be the ones setting the prices. This club is experiencing a time of economic stability and we don’t need to sell.”

“We’re going to be firm about this and we’ll only consider selling outside the market, which gives us the opportunity to make our team competitive.”

The quotes from Castro would seem to fly in the face of suggestions that Liverpool were planning a medical with the Spanish international before the weekend but, as we know with transfers, things can happen very quickly and often, when a club owner or ‘president’ speaks out, it tends to be more of a ploy to extract more money from the interested party by letting other clubs know they’re open to offers.

With Liverpool obviously showing a great deal of interest in the player, and with both full-back positions being problem areas over the past couple of seasons, it is likely that an offer for Moreno is already on the table and more news will be forthcoming over the next few days.
