You Simply Can’t Defend Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez is now facing strong disciplinary action

Less than a week ago we watched Luis Suarez practically dump England out of the World Cup. As Kopites we were proud to call him one of our own. He was showing the world what we had seen him do on a weekly basis in a Liverpool shirt.

However, during Uruguay’s game against Italy, the world saw the side of him we hoped had vanished. In a moment of utter madness, he appeared to once again sink his teeth into an opposing player. Ridiculous. Baffling. Simply indefensible.

I reviewed the footage again and again. I was desperately looking for excuses. Maybe the England game was so boring, I’ve actually fallen asleep and this is all a hideous nightmare? But no, it was real life and Adrian Chiles was now informing myself and other viewers that biting someone was wrong. Thanks again ITV for your incisive coverage.

Then came the type of support I can not stand. Across Twitter and Facebook, I saw numerous Liverpool fans trying to defend him. Had they not seen the same footage I had seen? I mean, I’ll defend a Liverpool player to the hills if he is getting stick off other fans for performing poorly, but when a player does something as stupid as this, you just have to put your hands up and take the criticism that is fully deserved.

He’s a grown man, not a toddler with a temper. And the excuses I saw were just plain stupid. I saw a few that went a little bit like this; “You’ve got to remember though, all geniuses are flawed.”

What a terrible excuse. Just because the man is one of the world’s best, it does not give him the right to bite another human being. There are, and have been, many geniuses in an array of fields throughout human history, but just because they have an incredible talent it doesn’t mean they can get away with treating other people poorly.

I doubt there was a barmaid in 1940’s America that had to utter a sentence like this;

“That Einstein was in here again last week. Head butted a bloke at the bar and took a shit on the table. What can you do though? He’s pretty handy at science.”

His actions have once again embarrassed our club. The only thing that is keeping him on Merseyside, is his talent. A lesser player would have been on his way out after his first biting incident. I love the man as a footballer. He’s the best striker I’ve ever had the privilege to see at our club. But he can’t keep continuing to do stuff like this and there is simply no defending  his actions. Actions that will have certainly angered the Liverpool hierarchy.

It’s going to be an interesting few weeks.

I support Suarez, you can’t defend his actions, but the boy is talented, and with Genius sometime madness comes too. The media and mancs are loving this, especially the mancs who are praying that Suarez leaves Liverpool and have been trying their best for two seasons to latch on to anything that they believe will hasten his departure. Now they will hype this circus to ridiculous proportions in the hope Suarez finally leaves and thus see Liverpool fall apart without him. I guarantee that they wouldn’t give a toss if Suarez was one of their players, where was their moral high ground when Cantona was kicking fans around Selhurst Park? OR when Keane was breaking players legs and destroying careers in enraged vendettas? As for the media they are nastier than Suarez ever could be, he has only bitten someone and sure enough that is weird and he needs help, but those hypocritical papers and their hacks have ruined countless lives, we all should bear that in mind before we decide to pass judgement on a damaged individual.

I still can’t believe a reasonable person will still look for excuses after what he’s done…… Common, this is the third time and second time he’s doing this as a Liverpool player!!! Fantastic player he is buh u have to admit everything has its breaking point, a player can’t because he’s good can’t expect to get away with it and the fact u looked for an excuse for him shows u are no better than him…….. I hope and pray We sell him, Messi and Ronaldo are better and I can’t seem to remember them doing something as outrageous as this. Biting, diving, cheating is not the way…… I’d snap a Sanchez and the money barca will add to it now, hope they’ll still be interested though

Biting gets so much negative criticism, i agree totally its wrong and he shouldnt have done it, he has an immature mindset which he allows to get the better of him but i just watched the France game where 2 elbows were thrown. 1 by Sakho, 1 by Pogba. If connected you could
    1. Lose an eye
    2. Smash a cheekbone
    3. Break a nose
    4. Scar someone for life
    5. Brain damage someone if hit on skull
But elbowing just gets swept under the carpet, there will be no bans for it and no punishments. Yet a little bite is regarded as worse.

The thing is Diego, during a football game elbows will be flying unwillingly must of the time, but bites aint, Suarez has done this before and its just embarrassing, as Paul said in this article , you can stand by a player when they underperform but not when they bite someone else, there is no excuse for suarez, He is a genius , one of the best in the planet but that aint an excuse, i can honestly say i want the man to stay and i love him but i love the club more and as fowler said ¨He has driven the clubs name through the mud¨ and that my friend is unacceptable, BR will deal with him when uruguay gets dumpped in the next round and might be sick and tired of this and ship him out and i wouldnt criticize the will of a guy that trully would do anything for the club if he feels its time to tell suarez to fuck off

    • Diego 'Digger' Souness says:

Like i said i dont condone the biting, it was stupid and immature but not as physically harmful as people throwing deliberate elbows. That was my point.
By the way the two elbow incidents by France were deliberate not just accidental, but there will be no investigations or bans for them.

If your own son has a biting habit and bitten others 3 times, would you give up him to one of your neighbors? Suarez is still a LFC player and the most lethal striker at the moment, he needs treatment and support, not abandonedment and isolation. If Barca and Real willing to risk everything for him, it will be foolish letting him leave LFC.
