Bony has reportedly been targeted by manager Brendan Rodgers

So, Luis has gone. That much is done and dusted. The hard work now begins to find a player that can slip seamlessly into his place, giving the fans a player that they can attach their hopes and dreams to, who is also capable of delivering in a big way. This is not going to be easy.

However many attacking players are brought in before the season begins, one of them is going to be deemed as Suarez’s ‘replacement’, and it will more than likely be the most expensive one. With that in mind, one name which has come up a great deal in the past few days (for a pretty hefty sum too), and is likely to continue to until the club spends a bit of the Suarez money, is Swansea striker Wilfried Bony.

This is a proposition that’s almost certain to divide fans enormously as, for a start, the player just doesn’t have that… tangible something about him that many will feel is a requirement. He has one full season at Premier League level and his previous clubs have included Dutch minnows, Vitesse Arnhem, and Czech side, Sparta Prague. Neither club is exactly at the forefront of the footballing world.

Nonetheless, Bony has impressed at each club he’s been at, scoring 30 in 75 for Sparta, and 53 in 73 for Vitesse, culminating in a Golden Shoe (Eredivisie’s equivalent of Player of the Year) winning final season at Vitesse where he scored 37 in 36. Many Reds will no doubt remember this is something Luis Suarez won the season before he joined Liverpool.

Bony’s first season at Swansea was also a resounding success, scoring on both his Europa and Premier League debuts for Swansea. The Ivorian would go on to score 25 goals in all competitions for a side that, at times, toyed with relegation. In what turned out an otherwise underwhelming season for the club, Bony was one of the few highlights scoring over a third of his sides goals throughout the season, as well as chipping in with another 6 assists.

Still, with more illustrious names available, it is perhaps understandable that Liverpool fans are beside themselves that the club don’t seem to be chasing any genuine ‘names’ or recognized world class stars but the transfer window is only 12 days old, and many things can happen between now and the end of the window.

One thing is sure though, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better striker in the Premier League, unless we were to sell Daniel Sturridge back to ourselves, and provided the price is right, Bony could prove to be a great acquisition and would mean Liverpool once again had 2 of the Premier League’s top 5 goalscorers from last season.

The only problem is that, as mentioned earlier, the fee required to get Bony is far too much and, if he was signed, would be interpreted as a direct replacement for Suarez and that will just not cut it for many fans, considering this was the summer that Champions League football was meant to signal the return of to the top tier of the transfer market for Liverpool.

Would Bony be a good signing for Liverpool? Or should Brendan Rodgers be setting his sights higher?

i dont think we should be setting our sights to low we have just got rid of a world class striker so we will need a world class striker to take his place after all we are in the champions league now so we need a top striker

Looking at the stats, Bony looks like an excellent buy for 15mill. If we manage to get Griezmann, Lovren and Moreno as well we’ll have a good enough squad to compete for the title next season. I would prefer having a good squad, rather than one or two star players who would end up leaving LFC after a year or two anyway!

Suarez has left the club . Liverpool cannot be able to get a replica of Suarez . That is not possible . However looking at Bony , he has attributes that can provide Liverpool Fc with a prolific and dangerous strike force . He is not a Suarez but he will deliver the goals that will get us into top four again . We still need to bring in someone like Griezman or Madrid’s Karim Benzema and then strengthen our defense with Lovren , Rojo/Moreno and we are good to go .

He’s a decent enough player but hardly what we need to maintain a title challenge. Lambert is a bench warmer, Can is untride and Lallana has one Premiership seaon under his belt. Adding Bony is not exciting me.

Please you negative human stay away from liverpool, u must be the type of player who didnt rate daniel sturridge and coutinho but now u fink they are good, suarez greatness came because of how liverpool play !!!!

You obviously didn’t watch Suarez before he came to Liverpool or when he was playing for Uruguay. Suarez was already world class when he arrived but he had an exceptional season last year. Bony isn’t worth more than £12-15m but he’s better than Lambert.

  • Jim says:

He’s too much respect for himself to join such a moral-less club. Try your luck with Balotelli, he’s much more your style.

Bony will definitely add value at lfc with his strength and good sight of goals he really must be lfc player come Aug, a not even talking about his strength …imaging how much he can add to Sturridge’s game

Am an lfc fan but I think liverpool are a joke why ?

Cos Mancity,Arsenal,Chelsea, manutd are all buying quality foreigners and Br is busy buying all the overrated british Downings and Carrolls.Any foreign quality player linked to us,they will cont to delay until another serious club swoops in.May God help us this season. After Suarez sale am afraid anything can happen now even relegation.

I perfer Liverpool to give player like Jack Dunn or Suso a chance rather than waste money on Wilfried Bony or Loic Remy.

  • amstrong says:

I don’t understand bredan Rodger and ian ayre, if they can’t get moreno, lovren, lars bender, Jackson martinez or benzima, that mean they are not complete coach or director… we need all this quality to match up with arsenal, chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United. . All the players they sign are good but they can’t handle liverpool pressure because we demand alot ..

    carlos vela

Yes,yes, yes…Jack Dunn,Suso, Taxiera, Wisdom and Ibe should be given regular start. Prefer if LFC get Griezman than Benzema. Last summer transfer window, we were looking at Luis Muriel from Udinese. This guy is good. Just like Brazil to Coutinho,he was overlooked by Columbia for the WC. He is more mobile ,strong and can create havoc in front of goal. Can dribble and make space for Sturridge. If given
chance,Muriel can thrive in EPL. He might even come cheaper than Bony or Remy.Just a suggestion.

bony would represent a decent buy for Liverpool, definitely not a direct replacement for saurez.
but would fit well into our business of the day, which is scoring goals. plus he seem like the hungry player BR is talking about.
i think we should buy him than either benzema or remy.

  • Ayuba Ajawo says:

I really like bonny. Apart from strongn hav agud control on ball, he is also so versatile. He goes bak to get d ball, has Gud shot atempt from a moderate distance. For d fact dat he scored such a nomba of goals in a team like swansea, imagine him surounded wit lalana, markoviv, sturige, coutinhosterlin etc.

  • erin says:

Bony would be good but i prefer Jackson Martinez. We already have Lambert who is similar and i dont think he will add anything different to Lambert.
Suarez is gone, no direct replacement can be found. However, we need to look at what he offered and compensate.
example, Martinez would be a gamble but if it pays off, you are looking at 15-20 goals a season. For that to happen, we need our midfield to create more. Dont expect anyone to go past 2 players and score ala Suarez… Hence, Lalana, Markovic (both gambles).
The easiest area where we can improve is our defense. We conceded 50 odd goals last season. if we can cut that number down to 40, its the same as scoring an extra 10-15 goals.

Its impossible to replace Suarez, but possible to replace his contribution. So far, we have spent too much on Lalana for what he is worth, and we are looking at 25 million for another defender. I am worried we will end up Tottenham mk2

Getting a 20 goals a season striker to replace Suarez and sort out the defense must be this summers priority.

  • WHAAAAAAAAA...HAHAHAHAHAHA..... says:

Worth giving it a try. With Brendan Rodgers guildance, maybe he will become Suarez 2.

  • imo says:

Please please please BR no Bony. We like our Lfc that way, if it means us not acquiring any other striker. He’s not good enough, he wont go straight into the starting line up and we have enough squad strikers in lambert, borini and Aspas that’s if the latter doesn’t die soon. No Bony Please

  • Alfie says:

    No he isn’t

  • deano says:

Bony is not mobile enough, and doesn’t work hard enough, it’s difficult to see how he would fit into a pacey attack. Also his aerial ability would be fed a lot less as we don’t have traditional wingers who whip in crosses.
I have no idea why we are after bony, originally and markovic when we could go after reus, khedira and remy spend the extra cash and get the better proven quality.

  • Marshall says:

Bony is too similar to lambert and way more expensive,,,,,,,would prefer loic remy.he fits the lfc formation and his sign on plus wages will be £25mil to 30mil.he can play as a 7 and or two 9s like sas and@ newcastle with cisse plus he has plenty of goals in him,.ynwa

  • pino pino says:

If lfc finish above spuds this season then I will eat my hat.Accept it or leave it liverpool is Suarez.Infact Suarez is the curren world best player. As 4 Lallana even Sterling can bench him.Am afraid bad times ahead.
