Lambert is hoping to make a good impression against Dortmund on Sunday

As the new Premier League season approaches, Liverpool head into the clubs’ final pre-season friendly against Germany’s second biggest side in Borussia Dortmund tomorrow morning.

Lambert has seemingly been living on cloud 9 since his move to Liverpool and is looking forward to pulling on the famous Red shirt for the first time at Anfield tomorrow, where he will likely start as Liverpool’s only senior striker in Daniel Sturridge’s absence due to injury.

Speaking ahead of the game, Lambert said “I’ve come to learn that the week before the season, and the last pre-season game, is when you get a sense of how well the team’s done over pre-season,” Lambert told Liverpoolfc.com.

“All the other games are about training hard to get the fitness in, so the sharpness may not be as good as you want it to be. But, the last game is about getting back and ready for the first game of the season.”

After the disappointing (though largely irrelevant) defeat to Manchester United in the US last week, Liverpool will be desperate to earn a victory in front of the home crowd in what will be a proper spectacle before the season proper starts next weekend.

With Dortmund, of course, will come the German superstar, Marco Reus who Liverpool have been linked with all summer but is seemingly destined to remain with the Bundesliga side until the end of the new season at least.

However, Rickie is determined to make his own mark against the visiting side, in an attempt to cement his place in the first-11 against his old side Southampton next weekend. He said “I want to get a goal, if I can get a goal that’ll be brilliant.

“It’s another run-out and I’m getting fitter. I’ve gone into games not feeling that sharp, but that’s what you want, if you know what I mean; you want to be tired going into the games because you’re working so hard in training.

“When the Southampton game is coming up, that’s when you’ll get the rest, in the lead up, when you’ve got that sharpness.”

Let’s hope Rickie sticks one away and leads the Reds to victory, setting up a confident start to the new season.
