Liverpool Player Ratings vs Everton

|

Goalkeeper/Defence

Simon Mignolet – As we all watched Mignolet simply flail in the general direction of the ball for the shot for Everton’s equalizer, it was easy to lay some blame at his feet for his positioning. In hindsight, few world class goalkeepers would save that and the Liverpool no.1 isn’t anywhere near world class. His display throughout though was one of nerves and an inability to come for crosses, etc. you know the drill? Needs replacing as soon as possible, as his form (or simply, his lack of top level ability) is hindering any centre back partnership Rodgers opts to start. Rating – 4

Javier Manquillo – Looked good and got forward well. You wouldn’t believe this young man has started barely a dozen first team games. May be in competition for the position from Jon Flanagan when fit but will easily hold off the more experienced Johnson. Rating – 6.5

Martin Skrtel – Continues to be on the end of unfair criticism, or fails to be on the end of credit he deserves. Say what you like but Skrtel is still the best centre back Liverpool have. Commanding, technically competent and rarely misses a pass. Slowly but surely he’s finding his form of last season and even offered a threat at the other end. Rating – 7.5

Dejan Lovren – The Croatian timed this well as, with Skrtel, Liverpool’s most expensive defender turned in the most impressive display of his burgeoning Liverpool career to date. Will need to see more of the same if Liverpool are to begin to re-climb the Premier League table again this season. Rating – 7

Alberto Moreno – Another superb performance from the new Spanish full-back who is both powerful and athletic down Liverpool’s left flank. For some unfathomable reason (but perhaps to halt Alberto’s runs), Roberto Martinez opted to stick his lone striker – Lukaku – on the far left and his entire threat was nullified in an utterly outstanding defensive display, as the Belgian was almost entirely anonymous. The one outstanding signing of the summer so far and unlucky not to get an assist or three.  Rating – 8

No, the once who looked stupid is the guys who paid 25 million for him. Man of the match? What did he create? Score?

    Henderson, yes.

Gerrard deserves a 6 and nothing more. Agreed. But, he is being man marked in every single game (some new strategy against Liverpool) just like Naismith who was tailing him all day long. And just as usual, he made some brilliant defensive interruptions and clearance.
Adam Lallana was clearly the man of the match in anyone’s eyes. He worked hard and tried to be creative in the opposition half which not many did.
