If I Was the Liverpool Manager Part One

Reus was a reported target for Liverpool all summer

Marco Reus (Adam Lallana) – By far the most unrealistic target, Marco Reus was coveted by almost every major European club this summer and yet the German decided to stay at Dortmund for what will likely be his final season at the club.

His refusal of a new contract suggests that Dortmund will have to let him go for just £20m next summer, a paltry sum for a man of his ability.

It would have been a big ask to sign him this summer, but given £25m was spent on Adam Lallana, who is a good player but not a world-class one as he lacks pace, a club record fee may well have been enough to tempt Dortmund to sell. Given the rumours of Reus joining Bayern Munich next summer, it may well have been an easier task.

Reus is currently carrying an ankle injury but it would have been irrelevant as his consistent creative and scoring ability would have filled the Suarez gap that appeared in the summer and still is there for all to see.

His playing style would have suited Liverpool down to the ground and replace the Uruguayan perfectly. Lallana may turn out to be a good signing and one which leads Liverpool to the top four, but with Reus the Reds may well have been in the title hunt once again.

if i was liverpool manager i would stop wasting money on foreign rubbish and buy top young english talent like dele alli for example. plenty of exciting english players out there if the club actually opened its eyes and scouted. just because you’re foreign doesn’t mean you’re any good. and give the likes of rossiter and ojo a game. and bring back ibe from derby. rant over
