If I Was the Liverpool Manager Part One

Should Liverpool have brought the Bayern winger in instead of Lallana in the summer

Xherdan Shaqiri (Lazar Markovic) – My replacement for Lazar Markovic would have been Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss star with bags of pace and trickery has been looking to leave Bayern Munich for a while with restricted game time, but Liverpool apparently wouldn’t budge above a £15m bid.

Well, given Rodgers forked out £20m for Markovic it makes sense to have spent that amount on Shaqiri, who has greater big game experience, such as his performances for Basel against Manchester United in the Premier League and for Switzerland at the 2014 World Cup.

He is more adaptable than Markovic and could have competed with Raheem Sterling at the top of a midfield diamond or play on either side of a front three. Furthermore, Shaqiri has a lower centre of gravity and superior strength than Markovic, who despite fantastic dribbling ability is more of a winger and less suited to the Premier League and to Liverpool.

if i was liverpool manager i would stop wasting money on foreign rubbish and buy top young english talent like dele alli for example. plenty of exciting english players out there if the club actually opened its eyes and scouted. just because you’re foreign doesn’t mean you’re any good. and give the likes of rossiter and ojo a game. and bring back ibe from derby. rant over
