If I Was The Liverpool Manager Part Two

Howedes may have been a more suitable alternative to Dejan Lovren

Benedikt Howedes (Dejan Lovren) – Lovren has struggled since making his move from Southampton to Liverpool for another excessive price tag. Whilst clearly a talented defender at both French giants Lyon and the South Coast club, the Croatian has never been consistently dependable and has continued this at Anfield.

He did enjoy a very productive first half of the season in 2013/14 for Southampton, but was not the same player in the second half and still became Liverpool’s most expensive ever defender – when he could have been purchased for £12m less had the Reds followed up on their interest a year ago.

Benedikt Howedes impressed for Germany during the 2014 World Cup, playing every minute of all seven games. Despite being a year older than Lovren and with no Premier League experience, Howedes is a genuine world class performer.

Moreover, along with being able to play at full-back, Howedes has been the captain of FC Schalke for a few years and has built up a reputation as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga. With the likes of Jerome Boating and Mats Hummels out of reach for the Reds, Howedes would have been a realistic target and the price tag would have probably not gone past £25m.

Rodgers may have had to do some serious persuading though to get the German, which is perhaps why he never came close to arriving at Anfield.

Howedes maybe, but the defence is struggling at a unit. Origi you dont have the details of the deal so more money doesnt mean he would have been playing now. An offer of more money and insisting he comes right away may have lost us the player to another team. Lambert has been awful but Samuel Eto has lost his pace too and has only shined in a handful of moments in an all star chelsea team, so a bad choice. Valdes has undergone a major knee operation which im sure you havent seen the results of , also although he is a keeper with a great reputation , his last season at barca wasnt very solid with mistakes being made , a bit like pepe reina. Moreno is not an alternative as he is already a liverpool player so there wasnt much point of bringing him into the equasion. So looks to me like you would be THE WORST MANAGER !! no offence mate !
