With Flanagan a long-term injury and Glen Johnson likely to be moving on, either in January or the summer, Liverpool are likely to be in the market for a right back sooner or later. According to reports in the past couple of days, that could well be sooner.

The player in question to fill the right back void is Barcelona’s Martin Montoya, who has been a back-up at the club for much of his over 8 years at the club and has now reached a point where he is no longer prepared to play second-fiddle.

The Spanish star’s agent, speaking to Tuttomercatoweb.com had this to say – “We will leave the club in January, there are interested clubs from England, Italy and Germany.

“Montoya wants to leave Barcelona and thinks the club is a gentleman and will respect the agreement that he can leave.”

With Montoya almost certain to be moving on from Barca in January, Liverpool are no doubt going to have competition for the youngster’s signature and the future of Glen Johnson may well be a key part to the player joining the Reds, or at the very least he will want assurances that he will be first-choice.

Do you think Montoya could kick-start his career at Anfield and if so, how far should the club go to complete the signing of the Barcelona right back?
