Goalkeeper/Defence
Simon Mignolet – Had a wonderful first-half, in which he saved his lackadaisical team mates on more occasions than he should’ve had to. Looks in the form of his career at present and take joint man of the match. Rating – 8 Man of the match (Joint)
Emre Can – Struggled, defensively, during the first half and spent the final 15 minutes of the second half seemingly on the verge of a second yellow. It would be great to see him unleashed along side Allen and Henderson against Manchester Utd but, for consistencies sake, he will continue alongside Sakho and Skrtel. Rating – 6
Martin Skrtel – At first glance, Mignolet was clear man of the match, but on a closer inspection Skrtel was calmness – and solidness – personified against Swansea, when all of those around him looked to be having nervous breakdowns. Having a really sweet spell of form at the moment and take a very rare joint man of the match with Mignolet. Rating – 8 Man of the match (Joint)
Mamadou Sakho – Having seen Lovren slowly improve and having to endure Johnson at centre back, most were clamoring for his return but Sakho looked more like the player that couldn’t get near the team early in the season, that the classy rock at the back of the past couple of months. Considering he’s only just back in the team, we’ll put it down to a little rustiness but has to be back at the races on Sunday. Rating – 6
Glad you went with a joint man of the match. Thought both were dererving but got to say, Skrtel is looking immense.
Ibe’s injury is a blow to our team – as Markovic is average & Lallana cannot defend. The most worrying is the pathetic form of Sturidge. It was as if we were one man short with Sturidge against Swansea – he could not press;could not pass &could not defend.. Our other three strikers are nothing but disappointment. The lesson here is that we must look for a striker of Surez class in other to truly become great again.
