Agger will go down as a Liverpool legend for many Reds

Centre Back – Daniel Agger

Once Daniel Agger announced his arrival 6 months into his time at Anfield with a rocket against West Ham in August 2006, it looked like there was another star in the making for the Kop.

Sadly that 2006-07 season was probably the peak year for Agger at Liverpool, making 43 appearances, his highest total for a single campaign. It was also when he netted against Chelsea in the 2007 Champions League semi-final, helping the Reds make the final in Athens.

Numerous injury problems followed him around like a plague during his Liverpool career, and, having in the main seen off Sami Hyypia for a position alongside Jamie Carragher in defence, he then faced the challenge of Martin Skrtel following his arrival in 2008.

Yet it was not until his final few seasons at the club where he started to rack up the matches again, often playing alongside the Slovakian instead of competing with him.

Still only 30, the stylish Dane will be missed and seen as a player who could have been so much more at Liverpool, which is testament to the talent he had – selling him for £3m was criminal by Brendan Rodgers.

However, returning to his hometown club Brondby epitomises Agger’s character and loyalty, and he will be remembered as the man with ‘YNWA’ tattooed on his right knuckles.
