Ancelotti was linked with Liverpool by Marca this morning

In a strange turn of events this morning, Spain’s Marca newspaper are claiming that Liverpool have contacted outgoing Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

According to the reports coming from club sources in the past few days, FSG had made it clear that they were prepared to stick with Brendan Rodgers but the news that their man Mike Gordan was due to meet with Rodgers to discuss and review what went wrong with Liverpool’s season seems to have thrown the Ulsterman’s future into doubt again.

Many fans expressed their anger at the result over the weekend, with numerous polls seemingly suggesting that a large majority of fans wanted Rodgers sacked for what is perceived as several failed transfer windows which subsequently led to a failed season.

So, news this morning that Liverpool have approached, or are considering approaching, legendary Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti will no doubt be music to many fan’s ears.

The Italian boss has had a storied history against Liverpool, contesting two Champions League finals with AC Milan (winning one and famously losing another) and is believed to hold Liverpool in extremely high regard.

However, any talk of Ancelotti should be approached with some caution as, despite Marca being something of a mouthpiece for Real, Ancelotti had reportedly stated previously that he wishes to take a year off.

There’s no doubting he’d whet the appetite of many Reds and would be just the man to attract top talent to Anfield but don’t get too excited just yet.

What do you think of these rumours today, would Ancelotti be the right man to take Liverpool forward? Let us know your thoughts below.

If FSG had any ambition for the club they’d pull out all the stops. He’s a winner. Some people talk the talk, he walks the walk. Liverpool is no place for a manager on a learning curve. If they have any aspirations of being a ‘big’ club, they need to show it. If there’s an undisputed world class manager available, they simply have to go for him, otherwise all we are is a project. Projects are for small clubs. The project at Liverpool is winning, and that starts with appointing a manager whose proven he can do that. League titles in every country he’s worked in, not to mention the double in England, and three European cups. It speaks for itself.

I went to Melbourne in 2013 to watch the “REDS” (96,000 fans and 3 Melbourne supporters) BRILLIANT!!!!!!! I’ve got tickets to Brisbane in July, but I couldn’t watch the boys if Rodgers still there. Nothing personal Brendan but I’ve watched 99% of games LIVE over the last 40 years and couldn’t watch another game like Stoke, so if you’re at the game my ticket will be on E-BAY,I am a proud International member of LFC and buy a jersey every year, also we get the games in OZ at 2 – 3am and I religiously stay up to watch them. COULDN’T drive 10 hours and watch another game like Stoke!!!!!!!

i like BR, but the masses determine the outcome of any organization. move on with your head high and let someone else with more experience take LIVERPOOL to new high and trophies which we deserve. its been too long.

Brenden Rogers is the biggest failure ever to hit LFC. If Liverpool want to win titles and compare themselves with the likes Real Madrid, Barcelona,Chelsea,Man Utd,PSG,Bayern Munich and other big clubs, then LFC must bring Carlo Anchelotti to anfield as a manager. He is the man to bring back the glory days of LFC
