The Portuguese goalkeeper has been linked with a move to Anfield

Rui Patricio (Sporting Lisbon)

The No.1 for Portugal and for Sporting Lisbon, who form part of the ‘Big Three’ clubs in Portugal, along with Benfica and FC Porto and all three are miles ahead of the pack in qualifying for the three Champions League spots available in the Primeira Liga.

At only 27, Patricio has made over 300 appearances for the club, the only side he has played for in his senior career. In 2011 and 2012 he was the club’s player of the year, and, along with most goalkeepers, is not susceptible to injury.

He is a top class goalkeeper, with the only concern being his lack of experience at the very highest league level, such as in Spain or Germany.

Furthermore, he would definitely be someone coming in to replace Mignolet, as he is the automatic starter at Sporting and will have Champions League football as well.

Nevertheless, if Liverpool are seriously interested then he would probably be enticed with a move to the Premier League but with game time assurances, which therefore could spell the end for Mignolet.

If the Belgian does depart, it could mean Liverpool having to sign two goalkeepers if Brad Jones leaves as well.

Patricio would likely cost between £10-15m and would probably represent an upgrade on Mignolet. However, he cannot consider himself truly world-class until he shows his worth outside of Portugal.
