With each passing day, the news surrounding Liverpool Football Club just seems to keep on getting worse and worse, whether it involves the manager, transfers or prospects for next season.

And, today, it’s being reported that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that Liverpool have neither bid for their star man Alexandra Lacazette, nor do they have the means to attract him.

Responding to Twitter talk, Aulas tweeted:

Which roughly translates to: “Your information is false. Liverpool have not called and what European cup are they playing in. They have neither the means nor the interest.”

Harsh, maybe but it also highlights the club’s failings this season, after an awful showing in the Champions League and then missing out on the competition again in the league.

Champions League football was noted to be a necessary target at the start of the season, as all top club’s need top level European competition for financial reason, but also as it is a massive advantage when trying to attract top players. And, as Lyon president Aulas has indicated, Liverpool are not an attractive option for Lacazette after the club’s failings this season.

Does this further highlight the make or break situation the club finds itself in this summer, or was the striker ever a realistic target? Let us know your thoughts below.
