Jovetic has been linked with a move to Anfield this summer

With all the talk about Liverpool’s newest striking addition surrounding Christian Benteke, the reports at the start of this week from Corriere Dello Sport are claiming that the club are lining up a move for another Manchester City player in Stevan Jovetic.

The Italian paper, via a number of UK sources, are claiming that Liverpool are keen to seal a deal for the City player, with a fee believed to be around £16 million – something that would be more palatable to the club, considering the £32.5 million fee reported to be required to prise Christian Benteke away from his club.

However, while there is no doubting that Jovetic has talent, he’s yet to really set the world alight as a striker, or as an attacking player at either City or his previous club Fiorentina, where he generally scored 10+ goals per season without ever breaking 15.

After badly struggling for goals throughout the past 12 months Liverpool are in dire need of players that can contribute, and while Jovetic would certainly bring goals, he is not what you would call a regular goalscorer, with just 11 over the past two seasons for City, giving him a goal (more or less) every three games.

Considering that Benteke has scored a goal every other game, it’s clear where that extra £16 million is going, as proven goalscorers are hard to come by in the Premier League.

Would Jovetic be the answer to Liverpool’s problems, or would Liverpool be better off sticking with the club’s first choice target and breaking the bank for Benteke? Let us know your thoughts below.

go for them both…we can always use backup fire power

    • Mandla says:

Benteke is a very good striker however he is always injured so, his price tag is a bit on the higher side for a striker who will play half the season.

If he can play a whole season, I’d go for Jovetic. More flexible and would fit right in.

Pls Brendan sign Benteke because he is a regular goal scorer and that’s wat we need because that’s what Lfc is all about.

how old is jovetic and what is his injury history?

  • MeenReds says:

When you consider actual minutes spent on the pitch, Jovetic’s goalscoring record compares well against Benteke and for half the price. Would also be able to negotiate a favourable part exchange for Sterling and get an even better deal, free up some cash for other options

  • marc says:

Jovetic can run in behind the defence has good ball control and would certainly be worth 16m im still not convinced that Benteke will adjust to the way we play. Still cant understand why where not chasing benzema or pedro or half a dozen other proven strikers that are available for less than Benteke get serious Rogers.

  • emmfedo says:

Jevotic, is not a bad option considering the number of his appearance for city, I just don’t like the price tag on Benteke!!
