Rickie Lambert
It was billed as a dream move for Rickie Lambert, returning back to his boyhood club.
Whilst a surprising transfer, on paper it looked a shrewd capture – £4m for a player who had scored 29 goals in two seasons of Premier League football with Southampton, whilst racking up plenty of assists also, and with plenty of motivation to perform and succeed with his beloved Liverpool.
Sadly, the dream soured for the 33 year old.
Instead of being Liverpool’s Plan B, he turned into Plan Z for Rodgers as the season went on.
Lambert certainly hasn’t shown his best form since moving to Liverpool, with many feeling his Premier League experience would have helped the transition, but perhaps playing in the shirt he had spent his entire life chasing was a bit too much.
Yet he hasn’t been awful and simply doesn’t fit into the style that Rodgers implements at Liverpool.
It’s not much, but Lambert has out-performed fellow strikers Mario Balotelli and Borini, which is why he was given a significant number of chances in the first half of the season because of Daniel Sturridge’s injuries.
Yet he only scored 3 goals in 36 appearances last season, and now it seems inevitable that Lambert will resign himself to a move elsewhere.
He probably hoped that he could finish his career on Merseyside, having turned down a January move to Aston Villa to remain at Anfield.
However, with Tony Pulis and West Brom keen, it looks as if Lambert will not have the fairytale ending he has worked so hard for since leaving Liverpool to begin his footballing career.
well. all the tin coach don to players is best tin to do.when you look at somebody like origi who go loan in last summer now is geting better than befor.so l ugoo pray let dis seas be a good hero to us.in jesus name amen.l AM THE FENS OF LIVERPOOL.
There is urgent need to sort out the left back position. Moreno is not good enough for the big games neither is it safe to be playing Gomez out of place. Remember Sterling’s complaints.
if rogers fails to deliver by December,he should be amputated before being sacked
