Liverpool FC U21’s defender Tom Brewitt joined LFC Foundation coaches in delivering a Premier League Kicks session at the Firefit Hub in Toxteth, Liverpool.

Tom took part in a skills and drills warm-up, penalty shoot-out and a short match with a group of participants in a bid to discourage anti-social behaviour.

Tom said: “It’s really exciting to get involved with the LFC Foundation community programmes, I’m from this area so it really matters to me that young people from here are given the chance to enjoy positive initiatives like this. Football encourages respect and co-operation and can make a really positive impact.”

Funded nationally by the Premier League and Sport England the PL Kicks program is delivered in partnership with many police forces and uses football and sport to engage youngsters from disadvantaged areas of the community in constructive activities to stamp out anti-social behavior. Since launching in 2006 over 71,000 young people have taken part in the program that is now being run by 47 Premier League and Football League clubs.

The LFC Foundation currently run 10 Kicks sessions per week at various locations around Merseyside, some of which work in conjunction with other key organisations including Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, St Helen’s Borough Council, Positive Futures and Liverpool Power league.

Andrea Cooper, Head of LFC Foundation said: “Kicks uses football to engage with hundreds of young people across our city that may otherwise be hard to reach. It was great to have Tom involved in today’s session. He is such a positive role model for our Kicks participants and was able to inspire them with his own dedication and attitude, conveying how football and sport can contribute to a positive future.”
