Rodgers: A frenzy to get me out of LFC

Rodgers feels there is a ‘frenzy’ to get him removed from his position at the club

With just one win since August, and even that coming against the most terrible of Villa sides, you’d think the current Liverpool manager would pick his time to go on the attack.

Not so. As Rodgers has decided that a limp victory over Tim Sherwood’s side gave him the ammunition to call out those attacking him, both pundits and fans alike.

Speaking via the Liverpool Echo, Rodgers said: “There has been a frenzy, there is no doubt about that, to get me out of here.

“Whether that’s a Liverpool hysteria or a big club hysteria, I am not so sure. The scrutiny here is obviously greater, for me, than at any club.

“It is a huge club and as a manager you know that and deal with it.”

There is no doubt that, in recent weeks, the calls for Rodgers to be ousted have reached a deafening roar but putting ideas of conspiracies and campaigns to kick him out forward will not help his case. Particularly not with the derby at Everton coming up on Sunday lunch time.

In many ways it is hard not to feel that waiting until after both the Sion and Everton games may have been a better time for the manager to come out fighting but that’s exactly what he seems to be doing after Saturday’s win.

He continued: “There are very short memories in football. The team was eighth when I got here and we built and produced a team to excite people throughout European football that should have won the league.

“It didn’t but nobody even expected us to be near the top four. I know how to manage top players and build and manage an exciting group, but when you lose that or those players are not available and you have to piece it together, that takes time. Then all the good work gets forgotten. That’s how it works.

“My only gripe is that it seems the focus has not been on what’s gone on and what we’ve been missing, but more about getting me out of the club. That’s sad.

“I am the same man who nearly won us the game, but better. If you give me the tools I’ll do the work.”

And while he’s right in that things you’ve done before can count for nothing when all the results are going against you, it’s hard to argue that, until the last few months of 2014-15 Rodgers has had nothing but support. From both the club and fans, financially and otherwise and each season has appeared to start off by rebuilding the team.

Pointing out that you’ve lost great players is also not going to help, as many feel that Suarez and Sturridge helped cover up deficiencies in the team that came so close to winning the league; deficiencies that we’re harshly exposed in those players’ absence last season.

And after not scoring more than once in a game for so long, Sturridge’s two goal return on Saturday has only reiterated this again.

So, while Rodgers has every right to defend himself, if he feels badly done by. You can’t help but feel that his timing was all wrong again.

Do you agree with Rodgers, is he subject of a conspiracy against his position or are the cracks in his usually calm demeanour starting to show? Let us know your thoughts below.

    Hi,
I have followed Liverpool for over 60 years, I don’t like mentioning his name, but this present manager is definitely the worst one we have ever appointed.
He could possibly be a lower division manager, but is without doubt, not a manager of a top club like LIVERPOOL.
Why the owners have not accepted this, is beyond me, they must know he is going from game to game hoping for more luck. This is not going to happen, leaving this situation as it is, is unfair on the future appointed manager.
When the new manager is appointed, please give HIM the power to choose which players he wants, and not leave the choice to a committee, led by Mr. Ayres.
    Regards

Please don’t make Liverpool fans look stupid. Quality and results is responsible for your dilemma. Fans are knowledgeable. Their demands are not unsubstantiated. You were given enough money, time and support. What more. Given the same or lesser amount of money, managers like Alan Pardew, Tony Pulis would have built a dream team. Fans are crying out for Jurgen Klopp because they had enough of excuses. You have destroyed many players and will continue to destroy. Please leave soccer. Try something else.

l have been monitoring the situation closely for sometime.l also hear that Klop have refused to take liverpool job until there are serious reforms including doing away with transfer team. From my point of view this is the major problem. The second is that Brendan often plays his men off position and l fear for Firmino. The final problem is the media especially former players who would make uncontructive criticism. They set their own team which the manager may not want.At the moment Liverpool are only 5points away from Manchester United but these reporters are sounding like we are relegated.Lets give Brendan support.Whatever you write you are putting our player under pressure

It’s not about just the bad start , many fans here have been following Liverpool for decades and have never seen a team look so lost and fragile, so what if we are 5 points from the top , that gap will widen because Man U and arsenal are playing with substance . The manager is so arrogant that he won’t leave without kicking and screaming . He will say the team have improved if we end up 10th . Thanks FSG for saving our club but your project has been a complete failure bar Suarez , do something about it
