Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was pretty pleased with his teams win last night

It’s taken three weeks almost, but Jurgen Klopp finally has his first win as Liverpool manager after seeing off Bournemouth 1-nil at Anfield in the Capital One Cup.

The same profligacy in front of goal was there but, in truth, Bournemouth would find it hard to argue that the scoreline didn’t flatter them, after the home team had the better of the first half before really cranking up the pressure in the second.

But for some good goalkeeping and wayward finishing a handful more of the Liverpool players could have got on the score sheet but the signs were promising and, in cup competition, the win is all that matters in the end.

And none were more happy about the victory than the manager himself, who declared himself satisfied.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, Klopp said: “I am really satisfied tonight, because this team have never played together, and the young players, new players, players who hadn’t played for a long time all did really well.

“We had many chances against an opponent who played nearly with their first team. We were dominant, played football, and had our moments, everything is OK.

“When a new manager comes, gives new information, wants new things, it is then normal to take a step back and to try to understand. They want to do what I say, but sometimes they forget to do what they can. For this, today was a big step.”

There was a great deal of high praise for the youngsters after a mature and confident performance from the likes of Ibe, Randall and Teixeira, all of whom more than the matched the more more experienced away side and grew more assured as the game wore on.

Of course, the win will now provide the platform from which Liverpool can hopefully kick on and get a good result at Chelsea on Saturday morning.
