The Liverpool manager got his first win tonight and can be pleased with the display

At last. At long bloody last – Jurgen Klopp has his first win as Liverpool manager.

All those records and headlines the press were getting ready can be shelved again and the German manager can prepare himself and his players for the massive trip to Chelsea on Saturday morning.

As for the game itself, there was plenty to be pleased with for Liverpool and there are very clear, incremental improvements being seen from game to game; something you wouldn’t have expected after just four games.

The concern, of course, is the issues with goals. There seems to have been steps taken to stop that issue at one end, with just 2 goals conceded in his first 4 games. But the issue at the opposite end is still there, with just 3 goals in 4. Having your three first choice strikers out for much of that time won’t help, and having a number of your prime attacking players injured or out of form won’t either.

But a goal from Clyne tonight showed that, with the right approach play, there are goals in this team along with the ability to win games – two things Liverpool accomplished tonight.

So, on to the quarter-finals. Thanks in large to a number of impressive youngsters who stepped in and didn’t look at all out of place, helping to provide a win that sets up the trip to London on Saturday morning quite nicely.
