Player Ratings: Chelsea 1-3 LIVERPOOL

|
Sakho was immense today

Sakho was immense today

GK/Defence

Simon Mignolet – The Liverpool no.1 clearly saw signs in Bogdan’s mid-week performance that the backup keeper is now more than capable of taking his place and upped his game noticeably. There were a few occasions where he had to pull off decent saves but he remained switched on throughout and has clearly been working on his organisational abilities. Rating – 6

Nathaniel Clyne – Clyne was more subdued in the opponents half today but he was excellent defensively, apart from one occasion where the Chelsea substitute Kenedy muscled him aside to shoot wide. Rating – 6.5

Martin Skrtel – Neither Skrtel or Sakho can take any blame for Chelsea’s early goal, and the response to going a goal down was perhaps the most impressive defensive display from a centre back pairing we’ve seen in a long time. Skrtel stood out – marginally – ahead of his partner for the way he kept Costa quiet and also for how he kept his calm after being studded by the vile Chelsea forward. Rating – 7.5

Mamadou Sakho – The defender has sparked a superb partnership with Skrtel over the past 5 games and they excelled again today, with Sakho making up the classy side of the two. Made some great challenges and was faultless all morning. Rating – 7.5

Alberto Moreno – A more muted display from the young Spanish full back today, who made plenty of inroads into the home side’s half but wasn’t as effective as we’ve noticed in recent weeks. At fault for Chelsea’s goal but it ultimately meant little, thankfully. Rating – 6
