Midfield
Lucas Leiva – Where the defensive pairing have improved noticeably since Klopp arrived, Lucas is easily the most affected and looks twice the player he has for years. If he can avoid injury this season, he could be a huge figure at Anfield under Klopp. Today he was imperious, as Chelsea toiled to find a way through and dominated the midfield. Looks like he is the team’s real captain at present and managed to ensure Liverpool kept calm and ticking over after letting in an early goal. Rating – 8 Man of the Match
Emre Can – Still yet to really start showing his potential and made several of his now trademark storming runs forward that ran into a dead end. If he can add some end product to those, he could be devastating. As it is, he is a strong physical presence in the midfield. Rating – 6.5
James Milner – Have to really feel for James Milner. He’s a superb player and a top professional but it just isn’t working out for him at the moment. The decision to make him Henderson’s deputy looks more and more like a bad decision by the week and he wasn’t at the races at all again this morning. Withdrawn for Benteke with an hour gone, it was the best sub Klopp has made yet and Skrtel, Sakho and more so Lucas look like much more effective leaders in Henderson’s absence. Rating – 5
