Police were called to Anfield after a ‘security incident’ this evening

It a strange turn of events this evening, police and emergency services were called to Anfield stadium after two men who were reportedly on the popular stadium tour ‘went missing’.

Police were called to Anfield shortly after 3pm this afternoon, after the two men could not be found, with reports that there was a ‘security incident’ at the ground.

Recent reports stated that, while Stanley Park was still open, roads leading to the ground had been cordoned off by police, whilst the Anfield car park was also off-limits, after tourists and staff were evacuated from the ground following what was referred to as ‘suspicious behaviour’ by the two men who shortly thereafter disappeared.

Liverpool Echo reporter, Laura Neve Tacy has since reported that police had begun to search the stadium after one man remained missing:

On closing off the ground prior to the search, a police spokesman said: “The club cannot guarantee that the man has left the ground and therefore a search of the ground is under way.

“Our priority is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone at the ground.”

Early reports indicate that the Capital One Cup match with Bournemouth tomorrow is not immediately in doubt but that the club are keen to put the safety of fans, staff and the public first.
