Player Ratings: LIVERPOOL 1-1 Southampton

Lucas LFC

Lucas was in great form against Southampton today

Midfield

Lucas Leiva – Moreno, Sakho and Benteke all run Lucas close, but so much of what Lucas does goes unnoticed and, as Liverpool began to turn the screw in the second half, Lucas came into his own. Looks to be really enjoying life under Jurgen Klopp and his ball retention and distribution were excellent tonight. Rating – 7.5 Man of the Match

James Milner – If memory serves, this is the second time this season we’ve used the word ‘atrocious’ to describe Milner’s performance. His cross for Benteke’s goal was the best thing he’s done in over a month but his overall display was terrible. Poor in possession, brainless tackles and corners that seem to have no direction. Milner even conspired to get a pointless booking, which may actually work in Liverpool’s favour in the next match. Rating – 5

Emre Can – How can a player deteriorate so quickly during a game? Can was so promising early on, making incisive forward runs, picking out sweet passes and looking like he had a goal in him. As the first half wore on his runs became aimless and he lost possession with alarming regularity. The second half only got worse. There have been clear signs of improvement from Can under Klopp but if his and Milner’s display today are anything to go by, Henderson can’t come back soon enough. Rating – 5.5

The result was inspiring in a very subtle way, considering Henderson, Sturridge , Ings were not even in the team. We have to give time to our Rockstar and his team. We are still learning how to press, Milner’s foul which lead to Southampton equalizer is prime example that we are still a long way to perfect Gegenpressing. Southampton has proven what they can do with set pieces and they did exactly that when they got the opportunity. Our defense has become solid now, no need to be stupid in the midfield with four to six minutes left. With Gegenpressing it is very important we get a goal in the first ten or fifteen minutes, lets not forget the referees were very kind yesterday there were some fouls which were let go yesterday. However the good news is both Benteke and Firminho are looking good, Let’s pray that Sturridge comes back as soon as possible atleast against Chelsea, cant wait to crush the west Londoners.
