Young Liverpool striker, Divock Origi, has had a tough time of it since officially joining the club over the summer. Shortly after Jurgen Klopp took over as the Liverpool manager, Origi was thrust into the limelight, with injuries to Daniel Sturridge, Christian Benteke and Danny Ings.
Despite his best efforts, the Belgian international struggled to stake his claim, and his lack of goals led to frustration amongst Reds fans. But the player’s effort can’t be faulted and he believes that much of the good work from the players in recent weeks has been down to Klopp changing Liverpool’s tactics.
Speaking to the official Liverpool magazine, Origi said: “Every trainer has his own way of managing and his own methods.
“The thing I like is that he’s very direct and can show his plan and convince everybody with his ideas very quickly.
“That is the one thing that struck me from the start of his training sessions: he is very clear in his way of explaining and his vision.”
The youngster may have struggled in front of goal but there can be no denying his efforts to get in to the right areas and in helping out his team mates. Something which believes will stand him in good stead under Klopp. He continued: “I am a player who is quite generous and yes, I try to help the team where I can.
“I hadn’t seen those stats [covered 11km] but it is nice to know that I was able to contribute in this way.
“The chance I had with the header early on was frustrating as I was a crossbar’s width away from opening my scoring account for Liverpool.
“It was a big day for me and I wanted to show my qualities in a big game against Tottenham Hotspur and the first game of the new manager.”
At just 20 years of age Origi has already seen the highs and lows of being a footballer at the top level, having played in France’s Ligue 1 for Lille since he was 17, then ousting Romelu Lukaku from the Belgian lineup at the 2014 World Cup. His lows came last season, after being booed off the field by his own fans.
But there is no doubting that the Belgian starlet has quality and if anybody can bring it out of him then it’s Klopp.
