Can you feel the January transfer window drawing closer or is it just that the international break is in full swing? Either way, Liverpool are seeing the transfer rumours hotting up, with a Belgian youngster and another German, former Klopp target being linked.
Reports from Irpinia News (via the Metro) claim that Liverpool are to challenge Aston Villa for the signing of Anderlecht youngster, Samuel Bastien.
The 19 year old is currently on loan at Serie B side, Avellino, where he has played more than half a dozen games this season. The young midfielder is thought to have a bright future, with Villa manager Remi Garde setting his sights on him no sooner than taking over.
Liverpool reportedly tried to sign the player over the summer but will continue to do what the club do best and monitor the situation, whilst Villa will look to complete a deal as soon as possible.
Elsewhere, and a number of sources are claiming that Liverpool are looking for some backup for the perma-crocked Daniel Sturridge and long-term absentee Danny Ings, in the form of Bayer Leverkusen striker Stefan Kießling.
The 31 year old German international has apparently been a target for Klopp before, during his time managing Borussia Dortmund, and he is looking to make a move for the experienced star again.
Quite why Liverpool would sanction a move for a player the wrong side of 30 is open to debate, particularly after the failure of Rickie Lambert last season. And all indications this season show that Kießling is truly on the wrong side of 30, having managed just 2 goals so far this season.
The striker has previously displayed great instincts in front of goal, having scoring 148 goals for Leverkusen prior to this season but, unless he is simply considered a stop-gap for the rest of the season, a permanent move would make little sense to Liverpool at this stage.
