Player Ratings: Man City 1-4 LIVERPOOL

|
Clyne was highly impressive against Rubin Kazan tonight

The right back had another solid game tonight

GK/Defence

Simon Mignolet – A great display from Mignolet, who made a couple of important saves after having little to do for most of the first 45 minutes. The most impressive part of his performance though was seeing him play the role of sweeper keeper and save the Reds from a one versus one situation with a certain former player. Rating – 6.5

Nathaniel Clyne – The right back was his usual self: solid, effective and rarely made a mistake. The England star has steadily improved under Klopp and City eventually gave up trying to find a way down his side.  Rating – 7

Martin Skrtel – An absolutely outstanding 90 minutes from Skrtel, who was in charge of the defence (and City’s attackers) throughout. He was strong, vocal and organised those around him; something that has been missing from the defence for a long time. Oh, and that goal? We’ve not seen a defender score a goal like that since Sami Hyypia’s over a decade ago! Rating – 8.5

Dejan Lovren – Lovren came into what was possibly the toughest test he could’ve imagined on his return to the side in place of the injured Sakho and was definitely up to the task. Easily the centre back’s best display since we signed him. He was assured, calm and partnered well with Skrtel. Rating – 7.5

Alberto Moreno – The Moreno revival continues apace, as he gave City’s right back numerous problems with his supporting runs. The Spanish defender was always available to support his team mates and some of his crosses was much improved. Rating – 7
