Midfield

Joe Allen – Did some fairly decent work through the middle, and actually managed to offer some decent support in attack. Sadly, the outstanding memory for Allen of this game will be Christian Benteke giving him a mouthful after he managed to get in the way of the striker’s attempted half-volley in the first half. Rating – 6

Emre Can – Can had another very mixed game. Often poor in possession, the German international will then surprise you by doing something outstanding. But he failed once again to really stamp his authority on the midfield. In the absence of Lucas and Henderson, Liverpool’s midfield just doesn’t look the same and questions will be raised about his overall display. Rating – 6.5
