The Croat was highly impressive at the back today

GK/Defence

Simon Mignolet – Had surprisingly little to do, despite the presence of both Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez in the Leicester side. One smart save about 10 minutes after Liverpool opened the scoring showed he’d managed to stay awake through the Reds’ dominant display though. Rating – 6.5

Nathaniel Clyne – A much improved supporting display from Clyne today, who got up to support his team mates in the opposition half on numerous occasions. Some useful crosses and his presence in the Leicester half helped nullify much of their own threat down his side.  Rating – 7

Dejan Lovren – If you’d asked month ago which Liverpool centre back would all but cancel out the threat of Leicester’s star men, it would not have been Lovren. As it was, he was highly impressive and was a big presence for Liverpool. Resembled the man we’d spent £20 million for last summer today. Rating – 8 Man of the Match

Mamadou Sakho – Considering the team kept a clean sheet and barely let the away side have any chances, it would be harsh to give Sakho less than this but he is an accident waiting to happen at the moment. Skrtel has come in for some criticism recently (rightly so) but Sakho makes easy situations look difficult. One occasion stands out deep into injury time, when he almost gifted Leicester possession 20 feet from his own box. Rating – 6

Alberto Moreno – Wasn’t at his best today, but he always provides an extra body getting forward, even if his end product is hit and miss. Still looks like a different player under Klopp though. Rating – 6

A welcome win after a disappointing run of results recently, and below par performances. We however still need to improve our conversion rate, score more goals in games, as leading by a single goal can easily be overturned. We missed a couple of chances that would have put the game beyond Leicester.

Henderson should have shot at goal when he had only the keeper to beat instead of squaring the ball into the goal area without checking if there was any teammate available to collect the pass and shoot at goal.

Also wasted chances from Firmino, with a left shot that went wide, and Benteke right at the death. It’s difficult to defend a one goal lead, so the team needs to learn to finish off the opposition. We seem only able to or capable of scoring more than one goal when Sturridge is playing.
