Lucas Leiva – Captain for the night and Lucas will be happy to banish the memories of the last time he captained the side against Crystal Palace. Helped Liverpool’s midfield wrestle their way back into the game after Southampton scored early on and then took a back seat as the attacking elements did their bit, whilst pulling the strings from deep. Rating – 7.5
Joe Allen – Lasted just 70-odd minutes but this was easily his best game for Liverpool in recent memory. Allen seems to be trying to add different facets to his game and he demonstrated a few more of those tonight, with a tenacious display and threw in a wonderful ball to set Sturridge on his way for Liverpool’s first. Rating – 7.5
