Reports are that Liverpool have agreed a fee for the forward today

According to reports today, Liverpool have agreed a deal with Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato’s club to bring the 26 year old to Anfield.

The rumours first surfaced a month or so ago, claiming that the former AC Milan player was an Anfield target and was keen to take one last shot at being a success in Europe, after falling flat following initial successes in Italy.

Having moved to Sao Paulo on loan from his current club Corinthians, the forward found the superb form that had made him an early success at AC Milan and he had been tracked by a number of top clubs.

But reports from Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla (via the Telegraph) suggest that the club have agreed an £11 million fee for the player, in what must be seen as an attempt to halt the club’s striker issues following injuries to Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Divock Origi, as well as Christian Benteke, who has suffered as much indifferent form as injury this season.

The Brazilian forward will no doubt still have a lot to offer, having yet to reach his peak, and a goalscoring record of 130 career goals – an average of better than one in three – would certainly offer Liverpool a known quantity in attack.

However, nothing has yet been confirmed or denied by the club so it would be wise to hold off welcoming the player to the club or buying a shirt with his name on it.

If there is the slightest truth to these claims, could Pato go some way to help with the team’s goalscoring problems? Let us know your thoughts on the player in the comments section.
